I watched it as well. Henry started off great, then became a megalomaniac and a very sad old man that drove his son into a very unhappy life and an early grave. Sad,really.
I just got done watching it too. Excellent program with tons and tons of very old footage that I have never seen before. Well produced for sure. I am glad I stumbled upon it while surfing. Henry did seem to go downhill over the yeas as far as being a nice guy, bet he was an SOB to work for. He sure had some strange views on Jews and how he should control the private lives of his workers. Not sure if I like him much now or just feel sorry for him. Don
Makes you all the more appreciative of the history of these old parts we like to play with and the blood, sweat and tears of those hard working individuals back them who made them.
That was not a Ford that was sent into the inferno! They claim Henry had enough T parts stockpilled in warehouse to keep them going forever. To him that was all the car you ever needed.
Like a lot of mega millionaires, what made him great was that he could be a SOB when it came to business. It seems, in the end, their only real friends are money. Yet, I still admire the guy. He wanted everyone to have what only the rich could previously afford.
Didn't get to watch it but know a lot of history about him. He hated farm work so he made cars. Anti Jew. Smart man. Shrewd business man. Inventive. Hard and cold. Jim Ford (55willys)
he wasn't perfect , but he did do a few things right....i have a couple of them in my garage. ever think how things would be for us if there never was a Henry Ford? would there be hot rodding? what would we be building?
I got to read a very good book on Henry and Ransom they were men far a head of there time. as were the Dodge brothers after henry pulled his **** on them.
I watched it too,---Lots of scenes were out of order---Especially when Edsel had to get the engineers & design dept. to proto type the 1932 Ford V8 engine in 1931 to combat Chevy's success with their 6 cyl.---While Henry was overseas on vacation. When Henry came back & discovered what Edsel had done in his absence, he was pissed!---But got over it when sales soared over the other big 3. All the sored details are in the "Ford Story" published about 15 (?) years ago.
Was a nice program. I would have liked to here a little more about how Henry scared his shareholders into selling, so he could buy the share to regain control, eliminate the initial investors. Also would have liked to know a little about how the Dodge brothers branch off and started. A little bit on dodge http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-faApS7x5Fk
I saw some of the last hour, I wish I could have seen the whole show . What I saw was very interesting.
i saw about 50 mins of the end, i'll need to see this when it gets replayed. people that make world changing invetions arent always right in the head, although very focused on their work. he also has invented alot of things and tecniques. like the manufacture of continuous sheets of gl***, or how to develop movie film plus alot more. if any one here has never been to the "henry ford museum and greenfield village" you need to go to see what this man has collected and put on display for all to see. it's mind boggling. but it's kind of funny in a way, that he started out as a hot rodder really. he just did'nt know it.
So exactly how did Henry Ford give Edsel Stomach Cancer? And you obviously have proof of this? Show me .
Great program....read a book about him a few years back...his whole family was a little crazy at times
Watched it last night and learned a few things I didn't know, Henry was an egotistical ***** for one. Henry loved the T model so much and only wanted to build it, To me Edsel had more vision than Henry.
