I don't see how the driver could hear the engine over the sound of his big, clanking, brass...

  10. Thank you for posting that video. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Looks like alot of fun if I were still 23 and fearless, being 43 and smarter, maybe half throttle would be about all the adreline I would need. Rod

I am reading about that car now, amazing that those guys were pulled out of the construction crew to drive those things.

  14. Very cool, they had guts to race that.

I find it kind of ironic that the car has parallel leaf springs though.

Wow, thanks for sharing - can't imagine the noises that thing would be making at 75 mph! Anyone else notice the steam whistle in the background near the beginning and at 7:32? Another of my favorite sounds.

Holy cow...that's no "putt-putt" car. Actually badassed!

  17. ??? Henry Ford drove and Spider Huff (Ford's mechanic) rode 'shotgun'.

If you think Henry was brave, google Spider Huff. He was riding on the running board making adjustments to the engine when Henry was driving the car during the race. Spider was a very brilliant and unusual man

  19. That car is a full, exact, copy that was built to commeorate the 100th anniversary of ford racing. The original was taken apart and measured and that one built at an unbelievable cost. I was at the Henry Ford Museum as an intern when that all went down.

  22. At 38, Henry wasn't exactly a kid himself.

It would have been neat if they had let Carl out on a track and see how fast he could make it go. I'm betting that he cold have gotten just as much (or more) out of it as Henry did.

Thats neat, scary but neat. 75 mph and no brakes.

  25. That is a great video. Cousin Carl handled himself very well on camera. Guess his NASCAR PR schooling is paying off.

Not only was Henry Ford fearless, he was lazer focused on getting backers/investors for his new company.

He knew the best way to do this was to win races and have a winning race car.
