Last December I found a couple sedans locally a '39 and a '40 Ford. It gave me thoughts of Jerry Moreland's '40 that I had plastered on my walls when I was a kid. Having enough toys of my own, I asked the wife if she'd like a project knowing she liked "old cars". We ended up buying both and brought them home not knowing exactly what we were doing with them. For those with a good memory, you may recognize them from another story here on the Hamb. After a few days we decided the '40 was the best car to build and we would sell the '39 to help fund the project. Step 1 was to get everything cleaned up and start taking things apart so we could get a game plan together... Harley (the dog) just watched with confusion hehehehe The floors will need to be replaced for sure and I'll need to find some interior window garnishing's...
This is going to be for her, so I want to make sure it's reliable, comfortable and easy to drive. She turns wrenches, rides in my crazy, noisy cars, and can run all the equipment on the farm. This needs to be a little different from those and something she'll enjoy. Getting an idea of the rear tire size and new wheels... Starting dis***embly of the front end...
Gotta Love those '40's! Looking forward to seeing where you go with this. There's a ton of parts available whatever you decide. Good Luck! Great Choice.
Would love to see someone do a clone of the Moreland '40, but it might be a tad more than the wife would want to deal with.
Maybe I'm missing it but those floors look ok except for the rear seat riser. They look dirty but all in one piece...or are they a patchwork of old repair panels?
Thanks all! She is not afraid of the load pedal so I think a clone or Moreland's car would be a little much for her...or the local authorities - hehehe Ya - I'm slacking! (Wonder if I can use it for an anniversary gift down the road? ) They are OLD patchwork over the originals. Looks like they may have been stick welded? I have done several cars from the 60's, so this is my first "Hot Rod". As mentioned, one of the great things about these cars is the availability of aftermarket parts. The plan as of now is to get it far enough along to drive it on the 2020 Hot Rod Power Tour. A lot to do between now and then. As with all things - it will come down to time and money....
That is an awesome start of your build thread Jason! Keep up the good work. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
