You could put some bump stops inside or next to your notch that stop on top of the rearend. That may be easier than creating another crossmember in the rear. This is what I was planning on doing with mine.

    Great job so far!

  5. More likely cleaner running too..

  6. why not add a couple of drop blocks between the axle and trailing arms?

take a look at the jiminez bros. customs site and look at their set up. no cutting. you should be able to work it out. also they did an install on a similar frame in rod and custom a few months ago.

As you can see I had to step the a-arms. I didn't want to do this... but I wanted to spend 500 bucks less on dropped uprights and steering arms so I compromised with myself.

I like it so far, glad you didnt go with the gasser idea. I have one suggestion, and you might already have it planned. where your front suspension bolts to the frame, plate it to the frame, when you cut for bag clearance you remove alot of material, and it will bend making your camber go to shit. Speaking from personal experiences. here is a picture of mine.

got a little time this weekend. Pay no attention to the dirty motor...it will be rebuilt. I set the motor in and fabbed up some mounts. I had these chassis engineering v-8 mounts from the purchase of another car a few years ago so I used half of them...split some tubing and cut the rest out the plate.

Did some work on the trailing arm crossmember. I expect to have this rear end done this weekend.

I bought a sheet of 18 guage so I can get started on making the floors!

    Smart idea

  15. Keep in mind that the panhard bar is gonna move the axle (and truck arms) sideways some when you lay it out. Make sure your stops line up on the arms when it's all the way down. Think I'd wait on those until you have the panhard in just to be sure where the axle is gonna move to.

Yeah, I did think about that after I posted that. I have resolved to doing the stops as Tin Can suggested and put them in the notch. I picked up some Energy Suspension bump stops from Oreilly's.

I think the panhard I have is too short...

I had to move the car to storage this past weekend. I was kinda burned out on it and was thinking about selling it. My son needed more room in the garage while working on his mini truck. The sacrifices we make for our kids, right? Anyway, I had to put the body back on the frame to accomplish the move. That's all it took. I'm in love again. Now to get that mini truck out of my garage!

I'm not real stoked about the frontend though. like I said before those bags are huge. and rub on everything. These tires are also 2" bigger than the ones I would like to run.

  21. so why not just run some smaller bags?????

if you HAVE to have the big bags, look up the baggin a stock 49 front end tech in the archives. there is a guy who did a control arm mod to compensate for huge bags.

keep it up. stay with it.

That's what the boy keeps telling me also. I will get some Slams with the internal bump stop. Now I will have to bag something else to use the D2500's...

I will keep it up now. I ordered the disc brake parts and king pins over the weekend. Since I'm running a Ford rear end I wanted a Ford pattern on the rotors.
I ordered a disc brake conversion last year and it has GM bearing adapters.
Here's a solution in case someone is interested:
    1977 Granada rotors.
    1973 ish GM (Camaro) bearings

The Granada rotors have the same bearing race size as the GM. The bearing adapters will fit the GM bearing.

I will confirm the numbers once I have all the parts assembled.

    Thanks.

    Why would you think that????

Having a RADICAL engine in a gasser styled car that can be classified as STREET (just barely) / STRIP (seeing occasional drag strip time - nostalgia - HAMB - Gasser Reunions drags, etc) is the way to go.

In fact, building a STREET GASSER might be the BIGGEST TREND in hot rodding today.

See the latest Rod & Kulture magazine for an article about HAMB member KiwiKev and his awesome home built street-driven real-deal wheel-standing gasser..... Nasty Habit!
