Herb McCandless 82nd Birthday

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by CornfieldPerformance, Aug 23, 2025.

  1. Had the opportunity to view the McCandless Collection today in Burlington, NC in celebration of Mr. McCandless 82nd birthday. Pro Stock legend and Chrysler guru and collector, Mr. McCandless opened his collection to all. Great day. Also in attendance was Mr. Buddy Martin of Sox and Martin fame. Few images below. There's a great 4 part bio of Herb on YouTube. Well worth the time to watch. An incredible, innovative guy who could row a 4 speed with the best of 'em. HBD Herb!

I've been to see the Collection 3 times and it is stunning. Also, last time I was there, Herb was our tour guide. I never get tired of talking to Herb and hearing his great stories. Happy Birthday, Herb.,

Great coverage, thanks. Herb has an incredible legacy, I ran into him at the Street Rod Nationals this year, great guy and always friendly. He built a set of Heads for my dad’s 426W just before he “retired”. I saw Buddy Martin drove over in his 66 Plymouth, great to see him doing well and in attendance.
    Happy Birthday Herb..

I saw the other day that Herb's son Mike announced he had purchased Sox & Martins old shop.

That is truly a magnificent collection of all things MOPAR !
My first car when I was a teenager, was a 4 door, 57 Plymouth, with a 318 and a typewriter transmission.
I have owned a variety of different makes of cars and trucks, but my favorites have always been
IHC and all things MOPAR !

It's going to be the new office for Richmond Auctions.

Street Rodder magazine used to use my place as one of their “road tour “ stops around back to the fifties time. They would bring shifts of 40 or so people at a time and I would give them a guided tour. I didn’t even realize that Herb McCandless was here until he sent me this nice thank you card a few weeks later. I called him and I bet we talked for about an hour, super nice guy

Proof Herb was just as cl***y as everyone expected! Cool Mark, that's frame worthy!
