This just came out and I have only watched the first part and it was good, but I have always been a fan. He did the cage and rear suspension in my car when I was 22 yr old. He was always a great help to me.

I just finished part 3 , great stuff ! Herb is a car guy. Around 08 I needed a DANA 60 cut. So I carried it to a shop here in NC where one of Herbs former employees worked. Got my housing cut , axle tubes welded in and straightened. Also received hand written set up instructions with a pinion depth reading. Back at the shop as we were getting ready to build it I saw that someone had stamped McCandless across the top of the gasket flange. Sometime after that I saw Herb at a race and asked if one of his sons worked at that shop and cut the housing. His answer was no that they called him up and he came and took care of it. And he took the time to go the extra step with the directions. For me the 70's through the 90's were great. We were at the race track 2 to 3 times a week and late night street racing after the track on Saturdays. Those were the days !

  13. Herb is a really great guy,,,,met him years ago at the Mopar Nationals .
We were in the hotel parking lot after dark,,,just hanging out and talking hot rods and street racing.
One of the guys walked up and brought Herb with him,,,,we were all talking racing in no time .
A really nice gentleman,,,,,and he always talked to all of us like we were on the same level.
Never condescending,,,,or any crap like that,,,,,he’s a really smart man too .
It was a very pleasant experience,,,,,and I will never forget it .

In the 80s I was looking for a turbo-action shifter. Someone gave me his number. When I told him it was for a Chevy he gave me all kinds of grief and busted my balls. So I ordered it from him. The entertainment alone was worth it. When I needed a new deep sump trans pan, turbo-action Herb and more ball busting. When I needed a new oil pan for my bbc who do you think I called to get a new Hamburger pan. Yup! Bought a lot from him back then. He asked me why one day. I asked him where else can I get entertainment and parts for a damned good price? He laughed his ass off. Him and Ronnie Sox were my hero’s growing up.

I liked the moving the whole floor up several inches and cutting the rear shorter and adding it to the front.

Glad you all enjoyed it. It was a 2+ year project that was all consuming. What started as just throwing Dad in a chair and letting him talk, turned into so much more. I've been blown away by the responses, it means so much. Thank you all for taking the time to post!

You can see Herb and the '65 in action here

at the Double H Drag Strip in Blue Ridge, Ga., on May 9, 1965, the last day of the three-day Southern World Series of Drag Racing event. Herb had everyone covered that day, only to break a driveline part against C. J. South in the run for the $1,000 first prize. He got nothing for his efforts that day, as they reran the field for second- and third-place money. Herb did get third the night before at Brainerd Optimist in Chattanooga, in a 22-car field. Eighteen ran at Blue Ridge. About 35 ran the opening night at Paradise Drag Strip in Calhoun, Ga.
