Ever heard of a 3 speed standard conversion to automatic column shift? Without changing the coumn. I have 3 spd column shift on my 55 Customline but I put in a C4 automatic and I was going to put in an aftermarket Lokar or Gennie on the floor. But I heard about a 60's style conversion using a later model column linkage and still using the stock column and shifter. Anybody ever done this? I think it would keep my interior cleaner and more traditional. Any thoughts on the best/cheapest way to accomplish this?
i was able to hook up the automatic (C-4) to a standard column shift. It's been a few years but it was no more than making up a rod from either shifting control arm on the column to the automatic. A few bends and some way to make minor adjustments and your there!
Thanks! I was thinking of pulling the linkage from a full sized column shift Ford auto. Doesn't seem too tough but other peoples experience saves a lot of knuckles and nickles.
I had to make a bracket for the neutral switch, got a micro switch from Radio Shack. Only problem is there is no indicator to tell you what gear you are in! I never did deal with this problem but something could be fabricated.
I converted my 54 from a 3 speed to an automatic using a stock automatic 54 Ford column. In fact, today I was working on fabbing up my shift linkage. I should have it done next week. It looks totally, 100% stock and I'm sure it'll cause some head scratching because I'll have a Mainline steering wheel on an automatic column.
That's pretty much what ill be doing too, just with the Customline wheel. Send me some pictures! I would like to see how you did yours. Thanks.
