Brings back a lot of old memories. We used to go to Sanford back then mostly.I'll have to dig around a bit;have a great pic of the SpeedSport roadster up there in 59 or 60.Greatest car I've ever seen run! I remember driving up there in my buddy's 63 Galaxie f/b lightweight with 4.57's in it(must have got at least 3mpg),yanking off the dog dishes, and putting on a set of Caslers, and running it.Come evening, put the street tires back on and drive home nearly 100 miles. Seems to me Arfons went off the end of Sanford a couple times and into the puckerbrush. No damage except a little ego bruise. As I remember it a lot of people liked running there because of the nearly 1 mile shutoff area.Several used that too. I remember seeing the Blown He**** and Jim Boring's wicked T'bird running.Floyd Masters with his C/R(Model A with a 265 and a 2 speed)coming out of the gate at nearly 9 grand and going thru the eyes at nearly ten!Tom Steed(the flagman at the time)whenever he saw Floyd come up to the line would stage him and then run for cover! A lot of memories;Sy's dragster,**** Roberts AA/GD,Jack doyle and Sonny Mazza in the Mouse, the 99 Racing Team, that beautiful 34 Ford coupe with the Chrysler nose(Skip LaJoie?)the NoMads..........and on and on.Sorry I got stuck in a groove.
