Yes they rent them on site.
When you get the registration forms for the swap meet space, it also has optional port-a-jon fees for those who want to rent one.

They have a lock on them when you get there ... to keep them clean until you unlock them ... :D

Is someone remaking that Bantam? Looks like an ad above it.

  4. Wow, all of Hershey in one day! You are a better man then me. A couple of years ago, my son and I would go, and we would walk for three days. We would sleep in a pick-up truck and start walking by 7:00am. that was before they paved the green field (is that the one that has been paved?) Is the meet smaller now? I remember the green, yellow, cholate, white fields. I read in an earler post that prices were good, I just went to Carlisle last weekend and I did not think the prices were that good. Glad you had a good time, but you know what they say, a bad day at a swap meet is better than a good day at work!

71 Tiger, yea, $2500 wasn't a bad deal, I was looking more for a basketcase. Maybe next year i'll head up for 2 days and take the Scotty camper with me so I have a base camp (i'll even get a port-o-john :)).

I walked the entire swap yesterday, and did parts of a couple fields twice. Between that and the three hours I spent walking on Tuesday I covered the whole place twice in 12 hours.

Stuff seemed to be priced pretty reasonably. There were a lot of good things I saw in the morning that were still there in the afternoon, which isn't normal.

This was one of the coolest things I saw:

Gary, buy a golf cart and I'll drive you around the whole thing and be your chauffeur .:D I'd love to do that one of these years!

I think you can rent golf carts on site, because I doubt that many people who were on them yesterday actually own them.

I don't think what is for sale is policed as much as what's driving the parts in

  11. That's not what you told me.....you said you "love swapping meat pics"!

  12. In addition to it being nice to have a clean facility to use the whole time WE are there, it's nice to have a clean facility for all of our street rodder lady friends to use as well!

When we go to the Autofair, we usually have a canopy, several chairs, a cooler full of sodas and a clean restroom. We like to offer a little hospitality to our friends that stop by!

yea, I wanted to take more pics but I knew I had a lot of ground to cover. and YES those dog lighters ruled all. I saw a ton of non-hamb stuff that was pretty cool but didn't bother to shoot it. The whole Pierce-Arrow section was interesting, those peeps are serious about those cars.

I was reading a few posts and no one answered this question.I think that you are not allowed to have a running driving and registered car in the fleamarket. But parts are parts. That is only my guess.

He usually has someone drive him around on a golf cart..but doesn't set up a big stand or anything...usually just a table with catalogs and maybe an intake. I think he does it just to make an appearance.

Have no fear, it's bigger than ever. I went today, got a parking spot close to the highway crosswalk, walked from 8 to 6, covered all the red field and 75% of the chocolate field, never saw the white or green fields or the car corral. Didn't run, took a good look at most of what I walked past, only walked to the truck 3 times, sat down for 15 minutes twice.

I didn't take a cart because I thought I'd get annoyed working through the crowds with it and wasn't looking for anything big. Second thing I bought was a blacksmith's post vise! Carried it out early before my feet lost the will to walk...

I'm not desperately looking for anything, so I didn't try to cover it all in one day because that is such a burnout. If your time is limited you are definitely going to miss something. You have to choose whether you are going to miss it because you are rushing by or because you are not walking every aisle, right?

For Portapotty phobes, there are flush toilets in the center of the chocolate field but the lines get long on the men's side, and there are plenty available without lines under the stadium. Plan your day and your walking path...:)

Knowing Bill, I'll bet he has a few spotters out there looking for more of the ultra rare stuff he collects for his museum. He's there to make the final decision and haul it home. I've seen him at some auctions in the past, especially if it involves pedal cars.

I dig small outboards, and there was a small contingent of them there, so that was cool to see. I just can't justify owning a boat at this point, since I work most weekends.

I wonder how much stuff is left at the end of a weekend like this. I bought a yellow fog light for my truck and the guy said he's been toting it back and forth for at least 3 years.

Sorry you had to run...part of the experience is meeting the people and making connections...rummaging into the bottom of a box, which for me seems to be always worth it...

running through it in one day...well...thanks I guess.

    More parts for me...

I knew I wasn't on the hunt for anything in particular since I'm trying to limit my junk purchases these days (wedding in 2 weeks, kinda broke) so I just wanted to take in the vastness of the whole place. I talked to my girl a couple times throughout the day and I was telling her it was like they took the entire parking lot of Great Adventure and filled it with vendors. I needed to reference something that massive to get the point across.

I was there yesterday from 7:15-4:00. I don't know why some think that saying you covered it in one day is akin to running the mile in under four minutes. True, you can't dig through endless boxes of junk if you've only got a day to spend there, but if you know what you're looking for (and at), and you stay in the "all business" mode, you can do it. I did joke to the guy that tagged along with me that a yearly cardiogram is unnecessary--if you live through the Hershey walk, your heart must be in pretty decent shape! I do miss some of the old Hershey ways, but sure as hell don't miss the mud. Deals can still be had there; I was pleased to pick up a n.o.s. set of .030 over pistons for my 265 Chevy for $20.00. I'm also happy to see that there didn't seem to be any drink Nazis shutting down vendors that sold reasonably priced drinks out of coolers at their spot.

Me and my neighbor went yesterday (Thursday) too. 1st time since 1973! What a difference. Left home at 1:00am Walked the meet from 7:30am until 5:30pm. Got home at 1:00am Friday 24 hour roundtrip. Friend got some stuff for a '65 Merc Marauder he has been looking for. I got 4 bottle waters and a hot dog. Good thing I am laid off and had to be frugal. Saw alot of stuff I would have gotten in better times. I'm thinking alot of us who were there are in the same boat. That Lincoln Service truck had my name on it. :( Sore feet, legs, and back even got my bald head sunburned but can't wait for next year.

Walked all the rows over 3 days. Checked every interesting box of junk and found all the stuff that I wanted. Spent about a grand. I can't see how you can do the whole thing in a day. Must go like hell. Andy stuck his hand in a box of junk carbs and pulled out a 97 with a $2 tag on it.
I'm pretty much reaching old fart status so will get me one of those electric caddylacks.
