A friend & I have rooms for Mon & Tues, can't seem to find a projected path of IAN to see if Hershey will be effected. everyone still going? or canceling? thanks
Will be there Monday afternoon thru Friday evening (coming from West Virginia). Been going since the early 70's, so a little rain will bring back memories of the "early years" when farm tractors pulled you out of the muddy flea market fields!
Hello, Wow, Hershey is a name we used to hear all of the time when we were little, as chocolate loving kids and later on as 20 somethings as a new couple trying to get situated in our apartment furnishings. At the time, we decided on old American Antiques from claw foot tables to powder grinding kitchen cabinets era style. So, we always had an eye out for those age appropriate antiques. When we had our second 40 Ford Sedan Delivery, we wanted to see the country and stop at Hershey for the great swap meet to kill two birds with one trip. Old furniture and hot rod parts, new and old would be on the menu. But, the 65 El Camino could hold more stuff, so it was decided that would be the transportation to and from the Eastern road trip. Then, family things started happening and we had to make new plans, that turned into no plans and over the years, Hershey was still on the road trip menu, (even as far back as 2002) when we visited OKC and headed farther East. But, circumstances prevented any further Eastern movement, so the rest of the cross country trip was turned into a North/western direction through the Midwest to West new route. Hershey is still on the menu and perhaps, if and when the pandemic is over and we are still in the mood to do long road trips... Who knows what will happen. In college, we studied Weather, Geography and the standard classes necessary for graduation. The weather patterns have gotten more sophisticated since those old college days. But, the predictions are still predictions. For the current "prediction" of the ex-Hurricane Ian's path, it was headed deep into the Allegheny Mountain area. Now, it is predicted to turn at the elevation barrier and head East to the Atlantic. By all reported estimations, the Hurricane Ian remnants will dissipate to clouds and wide spread moisture as it heads East, sputtering to a small moisture laden storm. But, who knows? As it was shown a few days ago, it would have affected Hershey next week. But, it is dissipating quicker that anticipated. Jnaki So, weather is still relatively predictable if one takes into account the geographical barriers, the prevailing winds and a good guess as to where it is heading. In So Cal, it has been extremely hot for late September. But, as soon as we say it is hot, in comes the fog bank so thick that we cannot see our neighbors. Which may be a good sign... Ha! Weather is predictable, but it is more accurate than when we were teens and 20 somethings, that is for sure. But, learning the basics and following through the long road trip to this day and age helps keep the cells flowing as they should. YRMV Have fun at Hershey...
I am in eastern PA. The local weather guy said this morning that the storm will hit southern Pa on Saturday. His forecast was that Monday to Wednesday should be clear. The weather channel is showing showers Tuesday morning.
It always rains at Hershey. My rain gear and dry socks go into my backpack right after my money and my want list. There is always a towel in before I even start to pack-refer to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
All the weather forecasts call for cloudy days Monday and Tuesday, and the partly sunny Wednesday to Friday. NTL, some rain will fall- and it will be a great week. Expect chilly mornings and dress accordingly.
No rain. If it does it'll be the evening between mon/tues. Yes, will be there thru fri noon. Starts and ends 1 day earlier. Bringing back a legit supercharged Cord 812 Cabriolet ("Sportsman" to the initiated). I'm in spaces C2I 117-119, eastern crossover from south to north chocolate. Sure, a shameless plug because we have hundreds of NORS ignition parts, good ol US of A service parts vs the import flavor that seldom last. Cheap too. See? Shameless plug Get it? Get it? Seriously we do have a major load of good stuff so if nothing else stop in and say hi, tell a joke, better yet stock up. Cya there...
Will be there Monday thru Friday. We've got a big tent on our spaces. If it rains, we're covered. We're in OBJ 15-17.
CANCEL HERSHEY ! ! ! thats down right crazy . we live all year for it , were like the mail man , neither rain nor sleet , and all that can keep us away
I got hammered by Hurricane Fiona,no power for last week, still no idea when its coming back on,12 big trees down in backyard, was planning to go,but not now with all the turmoil from the hurricane, have fun if you go. harvey
Hershey has been pretty wet the last couple days with Monday being the better for us as a sale day. It rained so bad today that at about 1 pm there was a good line of cars exiting Hershey. We bailed about 1:30. Tomorrow is supposed to be wet until noon. Many venders were not there and of those that were most did not even set up and those that did comprised of only about 20% of the total vendor spaces. Thursday is supposed to be a nice day so we shall see how this all pans out. Upper part of the Orange field was closed for vendors - I do not know where they were relocated to. Both the chocolate fields were quite vacant - you looked out from the bridge and it was appalling just how many vendors were absent. There was an announcement today by the AACA that Hershey will be at Hershey for some time to come. There were rumors flying around that this would be there last year there - the announcement dispelled and put to rest whatever the rumor mill had been saying. So that’s a good thing in my book. Gabby and I are in OBG 1-3 …..
TomT was right, Monday was a good day, tuesday was wet and full of blue tarps. you could swing a big umbrella around and not hit a spectator. left early this morning and was back in W.Pa by 1PM. i did get some things i needed but not much else. will post a couple pics later.
With all of that rain, leaving early on Tuesday, fights with more rain on Wed, I sold more stuff in the rain than I did on Thursday when it was just gorgeous out. The last vending day looked like a Saturday at Carlisle - couples are just strolling around with just a pair of the yearly chrome valve covers under the guys’ arms to replace the rusty ones from last year! Geesh …….
One thing about shitty weather....the guys who are still out walking around in it are serious about buying something!
I concur. We sold the snot out of our stuff on tues and wed. Had a good day thurs too but slow n steady vs the rush we were getting. EZ-UPs help too, hide out, shop parts...
My first Hershey. I'm a hard core shopper, and I couldn't believe those fair weather vendors. All that effort and money to get there and they let a little rain shut them down! Not all of them, I appreciate the guys I dealt with that came to sell, but the fair weather guys hidden under tarps? Pshh.
