I was in the car corral spots A45-A50 24/7 except my escape for a couple hours on Friday. Thanks to all who stopped by to say hi! Was that your signboard I signed? I asked the guy next door if you were around and he just chuckled. I take it you're not there often? I was soooo upset to see vendors packing up even Friday. It is soooo unfair to those people who have to work thru the week. If you are a vendor and you left early, shame on you!
Next year it is October 7-10. Rossodino 34, I looked at the photos of your car. It's a nice ride, but it doesn't fit in at Hershey. All the same, you were treated poorly and I think you'd be right to let the powers to be in AACA know it. There's no reason for you to be yelled or screamed at, and you should hve gotten a refund-no car,no charge. That, of course, is assuming you weren't an idiot right back at him.
I've read both this thread and the "Hershey Nightmare" one a few times over now. Hershey is about the people and the parts. The old dude had no right to act like he did, but he did so let's get over it. I had an interesting conversation with one of officers of the club to see what the deal was about not being able to get a spot for many years running. What he said really rang true. He was 70 years old and he is one of the youngest members. Most of these guys are stuck in their ways and are not going to change for you or me. They are not into computers, hot/street/rat rods, or anything else during Hershey week except the cars. The cars is what brought them there and keep them coming back on their own time. Remember: All AACA members are there as volunteers. Some of them are more cool about it than others. That being said, it sucked your experience was rained on by this one guy. I had my doubts for a few years, but Hershey is back and will always be the premier spot for car people to come together. Check this out: I can't explain how cool it is to be chatting with a older fellow who has been there and done that. He senses you are talking the talk and making it happen again. He sees the fire in your eye and sells you the part for what he paid for it back in day (or really cheap). Example: I picked up a 97 just to look at. Guy asked me a few questions. Answered back and we began talking. 1/2 hour later and $15 poorer, I walk away with a really nice carb. and the guy told me just make sure that I you use it and don't resell it. How god damn cool is that? I was leaning on the negative side of things for awhile but, that experience changed it all around for me. 90% of the people who are into old cars are good people. There are the 10% in everything we do in life. Sounds like you ran into one of the 10%. Time to let it go. It has been beaten to death already. For the other people who had an incredible time at '08 Hershey, can't wait for Hershey '09!
DUDE! You just don't get it do you, learn to READ the rules, AACA or whatever club is putting on the event. I've got a real long fuse, but you have been on the HAMB too short a time and have given us NOTHING. SHUT THE FUCK UP and go to a Street Rod site.
Right. Check out the Hershey AACA clubs regs: http://local.aaca.org/hershey/documents/2008/Fall Meet 2008/Car Corral pg 36.pdf Here is Rule 5:"Must be AACA eligible. No street rods, modified/custom or replicars.". Which part of this did you not understand? Again, there was no reason for you to be treated rudely, but all the same, you could have saved yourself a lot of trouble by reading the directions. Same goes for the HAMB.
Hershey was so cool! me and my bro skipped class to go on tuesday. Wish i wasnt a poor college kid. All i got was a stock intake for an A banger. So much cool stuff, its almost overwhelming, especially if your not that experienced with whats good and not haha. you definatly need more than 1 day there... I talked to a couple cool old dudes, one dude from south jersey with a NICE traditional model a roadster, and a little more modernly styled A pickup. and another dude who was sellin some E and J's... he was cool he was tellin us about hoppin up bangers. I had a good experience and will definatly be back next year with a big wad of cash! hahaha wish i got to meet some of you HAMBers but i really had no idea what i was doin hahaha.
Welcome to the hoards who have drunk the Hershey Kool-aid and hopefully you caught "the fever". I truly believe Herco releases brain damaging chemicals into the air that forever alters our brain matter by creating this uncontrollable urge to head to these hallow grounds every early Oct. It's kind of akin to the migratory patterns of wild animals. Only these wild animals are carrying shitloads of cash in their pockets. Hope to see you next year. Hershey 2009 or BUST!
I love going to the Hershey show. I'm there Tuesday to Friday. Took my '48 Airstream camper for the first time this year and got hammered with questions as soon as I pulled in...and every time I was close! I get to set up in "racer's row" and hear stories about racing back in the day. Even better on a warm evening like we had this week. I buy some junk and sell some junk. Get to talk to people that dig the Showdown. Do a tour or two of our warehouse/home. Get to see some HAMB'ers that I only get to see once a year. AND look at miles and miles of cars and parts! Whats not to like??
If you don't love Hershey...you don't love car parts. It's the only place you can get just about any early car part you want. Every rare car part I've needed and couldn't find.....I found at Hershey. I only have two complaints about Hershey. The first and biggest......not enough money for all the cool shit. Second and minor...is who was the old fart that came up with the gates close at 9pm and open at 7am? Most people camp there and it gives very little time to get out and get a meal. I did have the sport coupe there but tried to be very low key about it. I understand fully it's a restorer's show. Hell I even know not to wear hot rod related shirts. Some guys won't sell to you if they think you're a hot rodder. Can't wait for next year...maybe I'll have more $$$$ Clark
I was there early on Tuesday morning and I made some great early deals from people who had just unloaded. The weather was great on Tuesday. Wed. the crowds were in full force and the weather was much cooler, but Thursday - Saturday was the best weather I have seen at Hershey in 20 years. I still miss the days when I was a teenager and the fields were there and the flea market was much larger, and there was no pavement for golf carts and electric chairs with wheels...... It seems like the flea market has been shrinking since 1990, I know the economy makes it hard for people to want to bring their stuff out to sell, but I sure do appreciate the people who do bring it to sell. My best deal was a box of early Ford parts, I negotiated $25 for the whole box and when I got into it 3 days later, I discovered over $500 worth of early ford parts... I wish they would open the airstrip back up to flea market vendors and make Hershey the big show it once was in the 90's. I was bummed to see so many people packing it up on Friday and Saturday it seemed it was 1/2 empty. I noticed a lot of people who were packing it up hadn't sold much , also because they hadn't lowered their prices. Saturday I did find a complete '39 For Top Loader trans next to a trash can!!! I took the top off and left the case (no gears in it). I still think Hershey is the funnest and best swap in the country, probably the world....
Wow...... it was bigger???? After all the years that I've been into this stuff my son and I finally made it to Hershey this year. I know guys who go every year and others who go occasionally but we were not prepared for the shear size of the place. To say that we were overwhelmed at how big it was would be an understatement. We could only make Friday but we figured out later that even though we walked for 8-9 hours straight we missed at least one whole "field" (even though I know they're not really fields anymore). I can't imagine it being any bigger. I'll be a regular from now on.
Clark, as you probably found out, the reason for the 9:00 curfew was the recent theft at Carlisle. SO once again a few spoil the fun for everyone else. I heard lots of complaints about it, and some fields WERE letting people back in after 9:00. BTW, answer your PM.
I got some 5.00/16 and 5.50/16 Chinese truck tires nice old looking. Full set of original 1930's BMW grills and a Dash for one a Mrs Bluto's Old Fiats 3000 miles Away! This weekend we go to Czech for another Swap Meet Not Hershey but there isn't some old lady telling me that a pair of Simca fender lights are BUGATTI,RARE, and worth $800! either Maybe next year I don't know ...........
By no means am I knocking the show, I like it. This was only the second year I've been there. When it opens up tuesday, are all the venders there? I want to start makin plans to go next year. later shawn
So Larry, are you digging that field behind the bleachers? I had gotten a chance to have a spot and some old friends talked me out of it. Sorry I listened now, also forgot you were up there. There are also a few 4 banger guys up in there too. If you ever here of some spaces available, please let me know. We have friends in the famous Chocolate field. So we were hoping to squeeze into there... did'nt happen. But we did you it often as a drop off point. Also sold a set of E&J's I bought last year at my friends table. Bought em at Hershey last year for 1100.00, sold them this year for 1900.00 The gent across from my pal bought em and listed them for 3400.00 Me and the new owner laughed together... Its the American way! Sorry I missed Bluto... I wanna meet that guy... you've got some collection and knowledge. Wanna meet Clark too... someday soon. Get this.... you guys will appreciate. I'm flying in a B-17 this afternoon to Maryland from NJ. Quick flight, but a dream of mine. Fell in my lap yesterday while sanding 32 18" wires in my yard....guess its a reward for working on rims all day. I hate sanding... Be well everyone!
It's O.K. behind the stadium...except when you find parts on the far end to carry back. We probably miss some of the general back and forth traffic. The good thing is that people know that all the race & speed parts are in our row so they show up. It's also real close to the showers, and track when they run the race cars on Friday.
I like seeing the vintage race parts (and Larry and Clark ) but I agree, traffic is lighter over there. Your B17 ride will be sooo much fun. I just flew on my first one last month, the time of my life!
Taking a B-17 flight is something every American should do, enjoy the flight and remember the guys that didn't make it back, but allow us to enjoy our lives today.
I went from 71 to 91 and got to sell the last year I went. It was getting so big that I felt I missed a lot no matter what day I arrived. A blast from the past....
Nobod...didn't hear about the theft at Carlisle or the reason for the gate closing. Closing the gates doesn't keep someone from stealing. hell we saw atleast one guy walking around late at night with a hand truck behind him. It's a shame the good people have to pay for the idiots. Dirty devil....our paths will cross sooner or later. Clark
People don't sell as much as they used too cause they want an arm and a leg for everything. I don't know about everyone else, but I've always gone to swap meets to get a good deal on parts, if I want to pay eBay prices then I'll bid on stuff on eBay, not waste my time walking around a swap meet talking to guys who wont even budge $10 bucks on the price. I know that some people make their living at this and I respect that, but that '32 axle you want $500 bucks for is worthless cause no one's ever gonna pay that much.
I love Hershey. I have been going since 1980 and I have been sharing a spot with some friends for 6 or 7 years. It's the ultimate camping trip. We sleep in campers and eat off of grilles. We hunt car parts. We dine out at the Firehouse spagetti dinner and at the Asian Buffet. We hunt car parts. We hang out with people we only see there! We sell at RNI75 so look us up next year...most of our stuff goes quickly because we keep the prices realistic. Did I mention that the car part hunting is the best anywhere? Clark and Larry usually stop by...one year they were driving a bare naked frame...this year Clark brought his Dad over in the sport coupe (hey, is pop interested in my truck). I bought a nice Ansen Y intake three spots away from them behind the stadium. We have never had a good day on saturday and usually are out of there by noon. It gives you time to get home and play with all your new stuff on Sunday I love it when the load speaker comes on at 0730 and syas "Will the owner of the street rod parked in the Chocolate Field please remove it from the infield". Ahhh....no place like it on earth.
Amen to that!! There was something like $23,000 worth of Camaro parts stolen at Fall Carlisle during the night.{Insert Camaro joke here}
