I will be going to Hershey for the first time this year. A friend invited me along, just wondering what to expect, things I should make a point to see, etc... Never been before, but I have always wanted to. Thanks Brian
Be prepared to walk your ass off! You can't imagine how big it is until you see it for yourself. I would recommend a back pack, cart or wagon to carry your purchases as it is a long way back to your vehicle from any where you may be. Maybe even a small cooler with drinks and snacks as the venders are expensive and the lines are long. Thursdays seem to be the best day to hit it real hard as Friday and Sat are super packed with people. Don't forget rain gear, it always rains at Hershey. All that said it is a great show and you will be hooked on it for life once you go the first time. ENJOY!!
What"lothiandon1940" Said, bring lots of BUCKS and something to keep your Jaw from dropping on a constant basis. But most of all have fun !!!!!!! Larry
The local club has staions all around and serve fresh hot cider if its cold and cold cider if its hot and fresh apples from the area free for donation to the change jar--don't miss Take it one field at a time and cover that area--scratch it off and move to next area--it is the only way to cover things--no going back--buy it when you see it--you go back its gone and you have lost time Not near what it was in the glory days as hey...the parts ahev been used up but...there is Always some guy that died and his son shows up with a King Tuts Tomb of rare stuff then..Feeding Frenzy! You will get in on one not to worry--amazing MIX of stuff--few years back we saw GM selling heirloom factory prototypes in a tent --million dollar cars selling like a local car lot--you just never ever know--tons of folks from overseas---be nice to them--they gots bucks and are spenders. You see--you like--you buy and keep moving-- Dragster builder CenPen Speed Shop located near by AACA museum worth a trip near by You will walk your ass off and never ever see it all You will see some rare out of the castle's barn amazing one off units maybe even a one of a kind hand made Mercedes race car from 1920's who the heck knows!! TAKE PICS But......The absolute best car show on earth is when they drive all the show cars into the show field Sat morning--you line up down the road and watch the parade then go in for the worlds and I mean the worlds--BEST car show in the USA Where else casn you see rest'od dump trucks, milk trucks, MG;s , Midget race cars, Mustangs, electric and steam yadda yadda Stay for the car show which is THE reason to go--
Bring rain gear, even if the weatherman predicts sunshine, somehow it will rain in Hershey. I have the USA Today weather map from last years Hershey framed on my garage wall. The map is clear except the Hershey area and we had 9" of rain. If you enjoy antique race cars the Race Car Conditioning run is held every Friday at 11:00 am in the stadium. I can't wait, this will be my 46th Hershey, wow am I that old?
Bring clothes for every weather condition. I have been there when high temp. was 85*+ and when it was in the 40*s for a high. Last year 9 inches of rain in 24 hours, or other years dry as a desert. As a spectator you will be parking as much as a mile away and may have to walk in. Bring something to haul. Buy a program if you are only looking for one kind of car, but remember anyone may have your part. Bring a pen and note pad to write down space numbers. Bring pics and a detailed list of your obscure parts you need. Some guys stop at my space with a 3 ring binder full of drawings, pics and copies of pages of the parts books. Something to drink is good to bring along as well as a sandwich, but there is enough food and drink available at the same price as a state fair. $2.50-$3.50 for a bottle of water, $5.00-$8.00 for a sandwich. Fries from $.00 up.
Don't miss the car show Saturday. Vendors mostly all packed up Friday night. Only a few diehards open Sat. am. Takes us 3 days to make it around and that's moving right along no pawing through boxes under the counters. You'll see stuff there you've never seen before.
Make sure you hit the AACA museum this year, only 1/2 mile from the show field. There will be a special Dodge display for the 100th anniversary, and after Thursday the Tucker exhibit will be open.
