Today was one of the first days the boy spent working on the Fleetline. I try to teach him little things all through the day but try not to overload him. He's 10 and his attention span is kinda short. I could tell he was finally getting it when he looked at the Fleetline grill(55 Plymouth) and asked what I was gonna do to fill the rest of the opening. It looks wrong he said. Das my boy.
Root, thats cool man! I have no kids, but i have a nephew thats only about 7 months old. I know his 'ole man (Dat Dirty Rat) will get him into this hard core as soon as he's gets to the age to understand. I'm looking forward to it. Tony....
Cool Root. Some of my best times EVER have been doing car stuff with my son. He's out of school now, and starting to sort out what he's going to do with himself, but we've got a '53 Pontiac stashed to do together once he gets settled. No rush. Life is good.
I know exactly what you mean Root. My gril is 10 and is bugging me about getting another hot rod. I believe my father in law infected her with this illness because she says it has to be a Ford. She wants to work on it so we'll see how she does soon.
He made a comment that kinda made ole Dad swell up with pride. He's standing there looking at the car at a 3/4 front on view and says" Man that looks cool". He had that visual thing going in his head.....you can see that stuff a mile away.
Its good to get em started young! not many kids/teens are into this kinda thing anymore, im only 22 and have only a small group of friends (though growing) that are realy interested in old cars (rods and customs). Im letting a couple of friends who have limited (none) garage space to work on some of their stuff at my place thinking maybe it will get them even more interested in this stuf than they already are. Ive always been into cars and started my first car with my dad when i was 12 years old, now my little brother has started a T-bucket project with my dad also.
Hey Root, I could tell you had nothin' to worry about when you were up here getting that old truck. He was talking race motors then!. Cool pic. Apple don't fall far from the tree. George
Yea Root my 10yr old (Levi) is at the same stage will work with me for an hour or so and then off he goes. He is stoked to work on the Hot Rod and I dont want to burn him out as well. Here he is in front of one of his favorite modifieds at Louisville.
I'm sure if he had his rathers he would be riding his skateboard but I don't want him to end up painting signs like Dan Barnett.
That's great Root! My 9 year old is the same. He likes to come and help but after about a half hour he's had enough. He's still not one with the grinder yet. Soon as I fire it up and shoot a few sparks, he's gumbootin' it for the door!
Way cool root, I can't wait till my son is old enough to help his ol'man. Oh and its really good to see some of the even young generation take apreciation of the cl***ics. One more kustom kid one less mini trucking rice burning no respecting want-a-be's.

[/ QUOTE ] Man that is so funny.....I handed him the grinder first thinking he could grind all of the trim holes down and as soon as the sparks started flying he handed it back and started looking for the DA sander.
