Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Fast Elvis, Mar 26, 2006.

  1. Here's an old picture from about 1965 or 66 of HAMBer Bufords 56 Chevy Sedan delivery at Cayuga Drayway where it was a track champ for a least 2 years if my history is right. Some of you HAMBers who are old members of the RoadMates Car Club from Toronto may know this beast!! Happy belated birthday brother!!! :)

Thanks for the thoughts guys, and a HUGE "attaboy" for our Fast Elvis on his determined detective work to bring that photo out of the archives and into daylight. It is the only pic of the delivery in battle dress I've seen. Judging by the "for sale" markings, the decals from the '66 NHRA nationals, and the spectator's jackets it would be early 1967. It's spooky to see this after almost 40 years. The old girl was a faithful performer, and was one of several that made it an absolute bitch to be in C/MP in that era...3420 lbs., 311 cu. in. SBC running mid 12's and about 112 mph. Like the old song goes..."Those were the days my friend, we thought they'd never end!"
That was my first hot rod, and I'll post an "in process" pic of my last one just for Flamedabone as soon as this old poop learns how. It's a Buick powered '56 Ford panel truck to haul my scooter and my beer in style. I've had tons of help from a lot of friends. We hope to test it at the HAMB drags.
    Later dudes, Buford.

Great pics! I'd love to get that first one for the for sale price in '65!

It's drag career continued after I sold it, but I lost track of it when I moved from that region shortly after. Approximately 10 years ago I was told that it might be just east of Oshawa Ontario but I did not track it down. Looking back, I really did not know what I had at the time. I used to shift at around 6800 rpm and thought I was pushing it's limit. I learned late that it would "buzz" to 8500 with ease. I wish I knew then what I know now. It was an enjoyable, entertaining and exciting few years. Again, thanks for the kind words and BIG thanks to Fast Elvis for his efforts. Happy motoring kids! Frank
