Peralta and Alva were the actual "stunt" riders for their characters in the pool and on the street...

Afew years ago when the documentary came out, my wife and I were in Oahu for Thanksgiving and we got invited to the O'Neil house on the North Shore for dinner. There were broken board all over the back yard, and 16 year old kids from all over the world were staying at the house to surf and hang out- The best of the best. I saw a kid of maybe 12 named Jon Jon, who was ranked #1 at his age tearing it up in some serious surf.

As sunset approaches, I'm sitting there on the shore, watching the pounding waves and these amazing kids. There is a really tanned, grizzly looking guy with tones of tattoos sitting next to me- Ot was Jay Adams- Fresh from the Hawaii correction system!! We wrapped for a while, and he was a really nice guy. I've got a picture of us together somewhere....

zman - That must have been a blast. I think I'm leaving early to go skate in a parking garage somewhere. (it's pouring in KC)

Man, this thread is bringing back such memories. In 77, I was right out of high school, & my friends & I would always go over every photo in Skateboarder magazine, then try to emulate what they were doing. Man, we were stuck in South Louisiana, with no hills or nothing cool. Cool street stuff was right under our noses, but we were too stupid to see that, so we build ramps. No videos or anything to see the real guys in action, just the stop action images in the magazines. So, we basically had no clue what the whole thing was all about, even though we thought we did. It wasn't until we finally went to a skatepark & saw this one guy, & then I knew there was so much more speed & flowing lines than what came through in the mags. I guess my favorite board at the time was a yellow Z-Flex with Tracker trucks & hard Sims pure juice wheels with German bearings.

Cab seems to be avoiding this post like the plague. Must not have anything nice to say (?).

I learned to skate at he Endless Wave in Oxnard, CA. Back then, Lonnie Toft was a god to me. Somewhere along the line, I decided it was more fun to ride bikes on dirt, but that led me back to halfpipes and skateboards after a while.

Yeah... Alva was everywhere you looked back in '77 or so. My cousins rode for G&S, so there were plenty of Warptail 2's around. Man, the younger guys on here have no idea what a revolution it was when the first nine-inch-wide "pig" boards hit the street, and it probably TRIPLED the usable traction on the deck. It was a big step up from plastic banana boards, fiberglass Makaha decks and loose bearings. First it was "German sealed bearings" and then "Swiss precision bearings"... wow. Nostalgia sure ain't what it used to be!

no gracie i was probably there. the years and locations get a bit mixed but i was at most of the stuff going on in the south unless i was at a bmx race of freestyle contest. i was always better at bikes but that didn't mean i didn't enjoy every second i ever spent skating. born in '72 so i think i was done with them then other than at a few parties. man the memories...ken....

Gracie, Rocking the autograph attitude! Love it!

Skate Fink, Do you still ride with Derek Krausuaskas? I need his # or tell him to contact Ken Lehman from derelict hotel. Thanks

fatassbuick, I rode with Blaze at the hanger, stone edge, the crest, O.C. md, ramp house. Tops for style, his slob/ sock plants ruled. Stayed at his pit in SC. We weren't tight though, he was "too hard".

zman, I moved to Wville beach as the ramp house was closing. I worked at Eastern and rode the ramp every day until it fell apart. Never made it to the farm ramp?WHY?. ALL HAIL THE WAINWRIGHT BROTHERS!!!!

There is no way that it could ever be better than "Thrashin"

Man, that was the best movie ever.

So much better than that "Gleaming the Cube" movie.

    What happenned to him?

He stayed here in Kville for a few months back in '90 - He ripped the shit out of an 11 foot (18" vert) ramp with pool coping on it.

Sorry to see the RIP after his name - what's the story???

    Oh yeah...

What was that old Skate movie with Stacey Peralta and that "mellowCat" guy?

It had alot of claymation in it.

THAT was the BEST skate movie EVER!!!

But i have to say, seeing the first Bones Brigade Video as a youngster set the stage for the next decade of my life.

i saw it last night. it was good but the documentary was better. it went a little fast and jumped ahead of things. they added in some things that weren't in the documentary but i don't want to spoil them. i say that you should see it with an open mind.

  25. Haven't skated in 20+ years, but, I did all the steel on the grinds, verts and pipes for this place.
