............saw it yesterday and enjoyed it. NOT as cool as the documentary, but enjoyable. NOT a good influence for the "youth" of today  . I spotted Tony Hawk in his cameo apperence. It was funny reading the closing credits and seeing all of the "names" that also made cameos. I'll have to watch the DVD when it comes out.
Here's a shot from my "day"..........(I don't look like this any more!)

..........notice the "prototype" Bata skateboard shoes. I had a friend that worked for them and they gave me a pair to wear and evaluate. I blew them out in one day at the park! Took them back and they were thrilled. Had to fill out several pages of evaluation on comfort, lateral stability, grip, appearence, etc....... They never went into production. Guess I was a skateboard "test crash dummy?"

[IMG]click to enlarge. Ocean City, Maryland 1990. A good photo from Geoff Graham. I've got a lot of good old and new pics of tons of rippers, just none on the computer. Here's a newer one. Harrisburg, Pa. Last year.[IMG] I don't have any good concrete shots!?!? Gotta get some...FDR! Later, Ken

And I STILL want to do it today, too! I wish there were places like that around here.

Allright, what would 70's skate pics be like without a butt shot?
This was winter '77, skating the first quarterpipe we built. 8' wide & 8' tall with no deck on top & a broomstick for coping.

Just saw the movie this morning/afternoon...what a great time!

The setting was great, the soundtrack rocked, and the movie was just plain FUN!

I never got into skating...was too busy with BMX bikes and dirt riding.

I did have a goofy old board, though...used to lay on it like a creeper and ride down feet first from the tops of hills in my neighborhood back in 77-80. I'd never seen it done that way before, but I fell on my ass whenever I tried standing on the board, so I just went real fast laying down.

Local kids said I was weird, but I'd beat 'em to the bottom of the hill every time!

Imagine my grin years later when I saw "professionals" doing the same thing on TV...touting it as some new sport!

BadPat owns that board now...hope he didn't step on it's soul by using his feet instead of his back!!;) :D

zman...you're missing the Bird lapper on your Grisham! I see you still have it, but covered Eric's name with stickers though! Wish I still had all my '70s/'80s shit...

Haven't got a chance to see "Lords" yet, but Duane Peters had a free screening of his flick "Who Cares". That movie fucking kicks ass!!! There's a lot of old school skate footage. Afterwards his band gunfight played. I got him to sign my U.S. Bombs deck. He even gave me a lil b-day shoutout on the mic. He's a really cool guy.. His movie is fucking nuts..

Can't wait to see it Sat. What a good time it was to be a kid in the late 70's/80's in the SW. Wish I had my old Wes Humpston board, I do have the blank mid 70's G&S warptail though. Here is a site I just found for the AZ scene from that time. All the biggies came out here to ride the pipes....

The best skater friend I had was Al Penzone who played with JFA and mostly the NOVA BOYS. Chicks dug him, I hated him!

  20. I am a little young to get into this old school skate stuff (I am only 29) but I was tearing it for a while on Powell boards.

Anyone into freestyle and bmx way back when? Ever hear of a rider named Randy Jenkins? Real crazy ass mofo from canada...

That reminds me...is it '70s rock, or new punk like the TV trailers? I figgered they modern-ruined it with the "new" punk to attract the teeny-bops.

The soundtrack included Black Sabbath, Ted Nugent, Jimmi Hendrix, and a host of other mid-70s rockers...some punkish stuff in a few scenes, but mainly 70s rock.

There were some cool cars in the film, too...really nailed the setting.

Rebecca DeMornay was HOT, too...totally spaced out 70s chick Mom!!!

FDR is like the little kid all grown up and proud daddy just watching with a smile on his face. Though the little rats can get cumbersome at times.

Lords of Dogtown has enticed me to see it, despite initial fear that maybe industry types pressured Peralta some. I'll still give a go around.

The hype around the movie made all the stuff on ebay skyrocket in price... so much for my $6 dogtown tees

Alva said in an interview with Maxim that the movie is pg13 and they were not pg13 kids, but they did the best they could.

    That sounds shitty already

You guys have me all waxin' nastalgic and shit!

I grew up in Claremont and Upland. As a young grommet, all my Free time was spent skating the Pipeline with my friends. Loved watching Cab, Hosoi and da' boyz rippin' it up in the Combi at the contests.
