Saw a commercial for Clorox Oxi Magic a couple of weeks back, thought what the hell, gave it a try on some light greasy footprints on ligh beige carpet and it worked like, uh . . . magic! The prints are gone without a trace, the carpet didn't melt and didn't even discolor.

...we have a grease TRAIL from the shop to the computer....ok...it's not THAT bad...but it drives me crazy!

    [/ QUOTE ]

Sounds like a good argument for buying a 'shop' computer. Something second-hand and cheap, to be used just for HAMB'ing...

    [/ QUOTE ]

LOL...yeah, and I might as well live alone too!

I asked my fiance', and she just asked, "why the fuck is someone asking about carpet cleaner on a hot rod message board?". Ah, I love this girl.....

    [/ QUOTE ]

Because if it weren't for hotrods I wouldn't have grease on my carpet....she sounds like a real 'winner'.

<font color="purple"> If it is a worked in trail that you have tried to clean already, I bet nothing can get it out now. Many products will not touch the stain, but will set the stain. Once set, nothing will budge it. If you do find something that makes it dissapear, it pobably is still there. Wet cleaners soak down and take the grease with it, then when it gets wet again it wicks back up. Also, if the cleaner you use has a lot of soap, the soap will attract dirt and will get dirty again making you think the stain came back (but its all new dirt).

I think thats exactly the problem.....

GoJo, or Goop. Always worked for me. Not recomended on a white carpet, but off white is ok.

    bugman,

i was thinking about gojo or goop ('cause they work so well on greasy clothes if you rub it in before throwing them in a washing machine) but how do you get it out of the carpet? do you then have to get the carpet wet and use a wetvac?

Since it's made to be used wet or dry, I put it on dry, and rub it in. Then I wipe with paper towels until dry. Repeat if it's a really tough stain. You could rinse I suppose, but I never have.

The best way to get Grease out of your carpets is to not watch the movie in the first place.

We've had good luck with spray Resolve, boiling hot water and a stiff brush.

Afta. You can get it at Lowes or Home Depot. It works on oil or grease based stains apply small amount on white cloth or a piece of scrap carpet and rub gently. Do not pour it directly on the carpet! Fat

I also now use starting fluid after seeing the guy at the Ryder shop clean the velour door panel in my Freightliner with it. Stinks for a while, but no stain from grease or fluid.

Remember, no rodder should purchase any textile product that isn't black or off-black...
Brake cleaner for practically anything, carb cleaner will actually allow chewing gum to be removed from carpet. Both products need to be used in sufficient quantity to imperil all life in the house, so soak it and go for a walk.
Brake cleaner will kill an invading insect INSTANTLY--they just drop out of the air when hit.
