Sorry, I already posted this, but I accidentally put it in the “introduce yo self” section
I’m freshening up my engine, and found 2 of my intake pushrods are bent. When I was looking up pushrod sets it looks like all the sets have 12 identical pushrods. On my engine the 6 intake rods are different than the exhaust rods... do I just measure length and get what I can find? View attachment 4404876

Firstoff, what bent your pushrods? Is that now corrected?
(rust in the guides on an engine that sat for a length of time, open to weather?)
The pushrods can be straightened, they are solid. Just some careful grasping (vise with shop towels, so as not to scratch the surface)
But I'd investigate what bent an otherwise (then) straight pushrod. Or two!

Not sure what bent them, and they are only slightly bent. No rub marks or anything, they just wobble a tiny bit when I roll them on my flatstone . Gonna take the side cover off, and lifters & cam out tonight and inspect everything. Someone’s been through this engine before. The rear center head bolt was too short, and doesn’t even reach the block, and this water port on the head doesn’t line up with anything on the block. Not sure if that’s just the way these are or not, 58884610859__03B45474-CC12-484B-B95B-AE6C5DB7996A.JPG

Also I’ve had this car over 20 years, and have put probably 50,000 miles on the engine. Runs great, but it was looking sad so I decided to go through it.

  5. If you over-rev a 235, the likely result is bent pushrods. At least that was always my experience.

That’s the likely cause here. Everything’s clean, and moves freely. But I have 4.11:1 and have definitely ran it faster than it’s supposed to go a few times when I was young

Here’s the whole pushrods. I think these weird intake rods might be aluminum.

I've never seen aluminum push rods in a 216 or 235 Chevy 6.
I do recall a neighbor 'over-revving' his '53 235 in a 'drag race', (laughable, as this big guy couldn't drive a hog to water)
But he said he 'missed a gear', and the engine started 'tapping'...We pulled the valve cover, and he had bent 2 intake push rods.
He bought a whole set, I installed 'em, and adjusted them.
    No damage, ran fine.
    Tommy didn't 'race' after that...LOL
    That was in...1959.
