I was thinking about what color to paint my panel truck and possibly my Henry J. 2019 Jeeps had a color called Bikini Pearl. I was wondering if it is a solid color that requires no clear coat.
Technically it’s a base/clear. you would have to ask the paint store if it can be mixed in single stage. If it’s metallic or a real tri-coat pearl, don’t expect it to look exactly the same in a single stage.
It' a metallic and a pearl so probably a tri-coat so there is very little chance there is a single stage formula for it and unless you can spray it perfectly you don't want a single stage as there is no way to fix anything like runs or orange peel.
Shoot a solid color, 3-4 coats ,single stage, so it can be wet sanded and buffed, then even a dope like me can look like a pro painter
You might change your color choice after you check how much these bad *** new colors cost, Friend just spent $1,800 for a gallon and a half of color and $800 for clear 2020 Lexus paint color.
I am painting my daily rite now. Factory color code showed only available (at my ppg dealer) in concept, the top of the line, 600 a gallon, and only base coat/clear coat. Instead I had them use they're fancy-pants computer camera and took a shot of the hood, pretty good paint yet, and then the computer made me a mix for same color in single stage urethane at 300 a gal, and no clear coat. Its a modern world. as stated above. if you are not a pro, and do not have a booth, stay away from the fancy paint
Kirker Dark Garnet single stage, using their base coat converter, their clear. $85 for 3 quarts of color (I bought 6 and have half gallon left), even less for the clear, Arctic Blast pearl over white, $85 for 3 quarts of each with almost all of those left, I'll use it on my T'bird. Shot with a HF gun, add 3 days of color sanding and buffing. The Kirker colors are limited, and you can't have a factory color duplicated, but for around $500 for everything, including primers, I'm happy. And my pecs and arms are more defined...
Looks real good. You did a really good job. There are still some paint companies out there that put out a decent product at a fair price .
Testify brother just got started on a 65 chevelle convertible. The guy dropped the car and sent me a picture of the paint code he wanted to go with. I called the paint supply, then called the car owner, $2600 for the red base coat. He changed his mind on the color lol
That Bikini Pearl is a pretty color, but I don't know how good it would look on a vintage car...it's kind of too 'modern' to my eye.
