I asked, awhile back, about a new forum for emergency roadside help. Like AAA for the HAMB... Helping HAMBs... whatever... A guy breaks a tie rod end, he calls his wife back home, gets her to get online and send an S.O.S... I know it could be done, and has been, on the main board, but if we had some way of locating HAMBers by the area they live in, like a "sort" ****on in the MEMBERS list, even if it were state by state, that would be so cool. It would cut down on the "Any HAMBers in...?" threads and might make for quicker, more organized, emergency help. A whole new forum, with a list of "volunteers" who have shops, trucks and trailers, and tools (portable welders..etc.) and maybe a bed for the night... could list themselves and what they might have to offer in such an emergency. Their phone number, and e-mail address (if they chose to provide that info) would be a great help, too. Access could be restricted to members, like a couple of other forums. Not much different than the HAMB O'dex. If it were to be abused, a member could withdraw his/her name from the list, or you could ****can the perp. I know it's ALOT of work for you, RYAN, but if you and the rest of the board were in favor of giving such a venture a try, I'd be happy to give my time to help moderate things. I'm not ****in' ***, here... I'd just sure hate to find out someone had trouble and I could have helped... Hot Rod related or not. This actually goes out to everyone on the board... Any thoughts? JOE
Denise started a Hamb Helper book already. For some reason or another, we decided an online version was not the way to go, and Denise asked for email submissions to put together in a text file that she will send out to you IF you were in the book. This is something that was done with success by a huge Vintage VW Bus club back back in the early nineties (N.E.A.T.O. club). I got an update from Denise within the last week that said she was plugging away at it. I thought it would be a monumental job, and it turns out it WAS! A regional member search might be a cool thing though. I could find all those lurkers near Houston.
No ****... I missed that. (sorry... ) When was that? Got a link to the post? Denise... count me in. What info do you want? Who knows? Maybe Im already in and just don't remember... I'd guess, and online forum, where each person could enter his own info, might save Denise the trouble of a fulltime job... plus, it could be updated constantly and accessed online, as I mentioned above. All the names and info that was emailed and PM'ed to me is on a spreadsheet already. The next step is for me to type all the email addresses out and send it. I was hoping to have it done before Christmas but that didn't happen. As soon as we're done with the calendar thing this week, and those are all send out, I can start again and finish up this HAMB Helper Pages. Those that sent info will receive the pages via email, that is IF you included your email address, which I'm very surprised on how many left out this bit of information PLEASE don't ask me to look now whether you included it or not. When the time comes and the m*** mailing of the pages is announced, and your in the book yet didn't get it sent, I will then send it out to those that didn't get it the first go around. IF you haven't submitted your info PLEASE DO NOT DO IT TODAY BECAUSE MORE THEN LIKELY I WILL LOSE ALL MY PM'S TODAY because I just haven't gotten a chance to delete all the old Helper Pages PM that I received. I'm going to try to do it this afternoon at work but so far been really busy playing catch-up cuz I went to TN for a long weekend to work on Big Olds. I have set aside tonight to try to weed thru the PM's BUT Ryan might beat me to the deletion and they all might go! PM me tomorrow with any last minute insertions and I'll make sure your included. In a nut shell, hoping to start emailing the helper pages this weekend.
