just joined in an effort to get back into one of my favorite things in life...50s cars. looking forward to sharing my project with everyone in here. im hoping to get it on the road by spring.
Can't be bad if your from the home town of Scott Frost. Post some pic's of your project, welcome. Gary
here are a pair of photos of the new money pit. i got it in lawrence kansas from someone who was going to "ratrod" it. im glad i rescued it before it got that far. the wheels make me ill and cant wait to get me some smoothies and whitewalls. im actually still in the salvage and evaluation stages as far as this goes til i get it in my buddies garage. its damn cold here and will be till spring and i dont have a garage. thankfully i have a good friend with a garage , tools and patience. so far theres a ton of rust. front floor, rockers, rear fenders etc...i got my work cut out for me i guess you could say. funny/maybe not too funny part is when we put it on the trailer in lawrence ks. at 8 pm or so it had a visor on it.....i guess thats going to have to be a hard lesson learned . makes me sick to think i lost it on the interstate to be trashed by semi trucks etc. im on a budget so plans for it are simple. i see a triple black paint scheme with a little bit of metallic purple for some accent pieces and new original parts all around since i havent the money for drastic customization. the interior is shelled so its up for a major makeover. i have seen some with custom seats and i like them but im wondering what seats would work well for buckets in front? i was thinking tahoe front seats but i dont like the tall headrests. i have a 3 speed floor shifter in mind and a really snappy looking console idea that is going to need buckets to work. so anyways here it is. its nothing like my cherry 40000 original mileage 51 4 door that was my first car but at least this way i can do whatever thrills me with this thing and not feel like im wrecking a museam piece.
Welcome to the HAMB! You are gonna love this place! I know I do. LOTS of really great people on here. Good luck with the project...
this was my very first car . the day we got it home. it cleaned up nicely for sitting in a hangar for 20 or more years. it ran like a dream for the next 12 years with regular maintenance. the AM radio worked for three years or so after i bought it. the part that didnt work so well was the old cast iron powerglide. fixed it many times i remember. this is the one that made me go 50s forever. i lost this car in divorce 9 years ago, looked for it but couldnt locate it even with the vin# so i gave up and got me a barely rescuable chevy just like it for the most part. the second pic is at a show in stolley park grand island.
