First I want to say this is such a rare and fantastic circumstance that you acquired the car with the same graphics still on it after all these years. To give you a little history; Adolf purchased the 48 Ford Prefect (4 door Anglia) around 1964 from a friend (Mike Medlin) that had it parked in his backyard. Adolf completely redid the car, he replaced the flooring with aluminum sheeting, redid the frame, put a 301 engine with 3 x 2's (first engine), second engine was a 301 with Hilborn injection with 538 gears and last engine was a 396 with 456 gears. He built his own clutch turbo automatic, he never had posi-traction; instead he used weights in the frame that he moved around until he had it balanced. He had a guy by the name of Gary Leaderman (who at that time was the top painter in the valley) paint the graphics thus it became Hi Ho Silver. He ran the car at the Beeline drag strip, Mel Larson's and Tucson drag strip. He used to turn 11.30 ETs with the small block and later 10.90 ETs with the big block 396. Adolf's biggest competitor was Little Hoss, a black Anglia owned and driven by Johnny Loper. I think Adolf beat Johnny once, Johnny used to call Adolf the "fastest Mexican". Racing was Adolf's greatest joy, he used to reminisce about those days and how he wondered where his car was and wished he could see it. Unfortunately, Adolf passed away in October, 2011. You contacting us is so ironic; it gives me chills because the timing is just so weird, it's almost like Adolf had something to do with this. Here are some pictures of what the car looked like when he bought it and it's transformation. I'm also sending you a picture of Adolf (pictured on the right with the light colored cowboy hat) along with his siblings. The back row is the oldest of the six (Art with black cowboy hat), Adolf was second, sister Carolina is third (middle person in back row), front row is myself Josie (baby of the family in red shirt), fourth oldest Frank (in middle front row) that you spoke to and sister Dolores is fifth oldest in front of Adolf. Keep us posted; we're so excited to see what the car looks like when you finish it. If you have any questions, feel free to call Thanks so much for making such a diligent effort to find us. Josie & Bob Winbure
Yep I have heard other people talk about old race cars but this ones history is perrty cool this guy was Jhonny Lopers friend .
No motor but i am putting a hilborn injected 301 together with pistons that look like somebodys fist stuck on top of them and cam that came in 2 boxes cam in 1 lobes in the other !! I hope to have her ready for the Round Up ,wheelies on congress that would be better than a burn out . looking information on clutch turbos or automatics with clutches .
That's a cool find, can't believe it's still wearing the original paint from back then. Good luck with the rebuild on it !
These cars ran unboxed frames high horse small blocks, hemis and big blocks . I have desinged front end for it and new straight axle with ford spindles .Plus a full cage no bigger than it is, it scares me thinking how fast they went. Bet it was one wild ride
Man this car is so small the guys that raced them must have been crazy I spoke to Bob Winburne and he told me that Lil Hoss, Jhon Lopers anglia came down after a wheelie and the stock axle folded up. I have a old M.A.S axle for ford spindles I think I will machine them to take the spindle mounts .
Sweet!!!!! I will be on Congress waiting to see that wheel stand with camera in hand. What a find. I had a chassis built for my buggie in Hawkins not much there as best I remember. Good luck and keep us posted the roundup will here before you know it......
