Hi, I'm a newbie here, this seems like an informative site.

I am looking for info on wiring a chev 3 wire alternator. The main power and voltage sense connections I understand. It's the field wire connection that I am a little miffed about. In most cases this wire is connected to the idiot light from the key acc. terminal. My alternator had a jumper to the field connection. I removed the jumper and the alternator works if you rev it up and excite the field. What is the best way to connect this wire?
    thanks

Wrong place for questions but the right place for introductions.

When I was re-wiring my '55 Chevy pickup a few years ago (12 volt conversion), I found a diagram in Petersons "Basic Ignition and Electrical Systems", a Hot Rod Magazine Technical Library book published in 1971 which I bought back when I had pimples all over my face (well, more pimples anyway).

You'll need to find a site that discusses traditional rods and customs.
