...but I want to be... well, less dumb?

I'm in a place where I can't build (it's an apartment, there's a clause in my lease) and while I know juuuuust enough theory to be really, really annoying on the Internet... and I'm autistic, so I'm kind of good at that by accident. But my father did all his own maintenance until a few years ago, and one of my biggest regrets is that I never actually learned any of it.

I'm an artist, a budding writer, an electronics and computer neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeerrrrrd... and I have a lot of really dumb ideas about wrenching. Right now I'm working on an art piece, but I want it to be realistic because I'd like to think that somehow, someday, I could actually build this monstrosity. The short version is, I want to take the chassis from an early-1960s Studebaker Avanti, raise the rear, lower and extend the front (but not the wheelbase) and drop in an unusual choice of engine -- a Chrysler 413 straight-six. One of the themes is doing things on a budget, as well, which hopefully will explain some of the ideas I have.

But I have a lot of questions about what I can and can't do with that engine, without moonshotting pistons... and most of those questions are probably going to come off as really stupid to anyone who knows anything, because for the most part, I don't.

I promise I'll at least try not to be annoying -- please tell me if I am, however, because I'm generally pretty oblivious to that kind of thing -- it's not rude, and I don't mind; I genuinely need to be told because the part of my brain that's supposed to do that for me simply does not work. Hopefully it won't be an issue.

I also promise I'll try to learn -- that's a lot of what I want, anyways. But I'm starting from zero, so please have patience with me :3

welcome aboard to the party . . .

well , all i can say is start reading books on fabrication , welding ( or take some classes ) , and search the inner web . its journey n a process in learning . we all had to start from somewhere or from someone , imo

it ll take some time but it ll catch on

even going to function(s) or car show(s) would help in networking w anything car related question(s) you may have

im sure we might even need some help w the computer or electronic(s) if we have any question(s) besides pushing the on/ off button . . . .

If and when I can get out of these apartments, yes, that is roughly the plan. In the meantime, the questions I have are the reasons I'm here ;3

Should I ask in this thread, or post new?

    All right, so... new thread.

I'd be working with a 1962 or 63 Studebaker Avanti, and a Chrysler 413 engine from I believe the 1950s -- it's the low-compression straight-six from Dodge trucks of the era, the big one. I think that qualifies ;3 some of the stuff I'm doing is a bit... odd... though, as a matter of economy and creativity. So I think I know where to go, and what to do.

    Thank you!
