hi-po corvair engine questions?

  1. No one has mentioned putting the motor in front of the transaxle for a mid engined ride. Seems like that would be the ticket.

    i actualy wanted to mount the engine in the front ann run the drine shft throught the car like a torque tube on an old ford ,( also like the newest corvettes) back to the vw transaxle turned around back words but i was tring to build my car cheap and i am not the best machinist. i would have cost me some coin to have an adapter plate and shaft made . maybe for my next project. i just thought that the headers would look killer running back like lake headers on both sides.

    here is a few up date photos of the air ducts for the oil cooler . i used earily to mid 50's cadillac a/c air inlets for the ducts.

    Use a 944 transaxle and shorten the torque tube.
    That would give you 5 speeds, stronger axles,
    rear discs, and be able to handle more power.


    3 straight pipes on each side would be cool.

    here are a few more photos of the hot rod vw with the corvair engine . i made beer bottle openers to take the place of the semiphores . also hand formed some crotch coolers for it aswell.
