One has too small of a front tire and the other has too tall of a front tire. Of course that is my opinion and we all know what opinions are like. If the car were parked right next to each other the one with the extreme rake will always get more attention. Both cars look like excellent builds and I would like to own both.

With lots of discussion about rake. I just posted a pic of what I like, just as you did.

At least I was using a 32 Ford 5 window as a basis of comparison.

When Henry and I talked about this car, we talked about a really hard rake and filling up the rear wheel well with a tall tire. When this car gets the top chopped I think it is going to scream badass hotrod! You say it looks cartoonish but alot of those cartoon drawings look really really cool. Cory's car is awesome also but I like mine better and that gets my vote and that is all that matters.

Cartoonish? Sure, but in a great way. Have we established the wheel / tire sizes for 3WL yet?

  11. Hard to compare those shots and rake as they are shot at two way different heights. The first picture was taken at an angle that helps exaggerate the look. It wouldn't look so "cartoonish" if the picture was taken at the same height as Cory's.

Here is a shot that I think is at about the same height as Cory's car is. Maybe this is a better comparison .

I like the the fendered/chopped look at lot. The pic you posted is close enough to perfect for my taste. I have a Model A coupe with a 3 inch chop and fenders, and am going to go with some kind of cheater/whitewall slick on the back and a nose-down rake in the front.

That looks like a better comparison and from that angle it does look better. I am still stuck on the look of Cory's car though.
I'm still thinking the rear tires on yours are too big.

Yes the rear tire is big, it's a 7.00x18 on the rear and 4.50/4.75x16 on the front. I've seen that size tire on highboys before but not on a fendered car. Trying something a little different and outside the box. Henry from steadfast came up with the idea and I love it. I know not everyone will but thats ok.

I'm thinking that once the car is built and you drive it you may find rubbing issues or things like that.
You may decide to move back to a more traditional wheel and tire sizing that work better on a fendered car.
    But I could be wrong.

Personally I think the rake on your car is awesome. It's looks great and I really like the direction you're taking. Hard rakes scream hot rod. Keep up the good work. I'm glad to see you're doing what you want with your car. Its gonna be awesome. Forgive me if I missed it, but what is the power plant? Colors?

Thanks Deucedreamer, it has a 350/700r in it. As for the color, the plan is to run it in bare metal next summer to show the work that Henry will have done on the chop. After that it will get something on it but as of now I am not sure what. Probably not a shiney paint but a flat color.

Well, I don't even know we're to start! First off, I am super pumped to be having this 5 window being Compared to Corys!! Hands down Cory is my favorite builder right now, I don't think there has been a roadster built in years that holds a candle to his or the one he built for Hollenbeck! I also have no doubt his 5 window is and will be the benchmark for Traditional 1932 Ford Coupes... Now as for Norms coupe, I was gonna go a little different approach than copying Corys car!! To be completely honest I'm not really that into building full on Traditional cars! I like new Pete and Jakes Parts, I like store bought flat front cross members, and I love brand new 5 inch dropped axles!! I haven't seen a Jimmy Smith or Joshua Shaw Drawing/cartoon I don't love !! Growing up, I looked up to Bobby Alloway, Alan Johnson, and Barry Lobeck cars.. That probably has alot to do with the "big and littles" or my fascination with "Rake".. That's what makes Hot rods so cool, there's no right or wrong way to build a car... Just your way! I remember as a kid seeing Hotrod magazine's "Dare to be Diffrent", I wonder if everyone just copying each other sparked that?

  21. Well said Henry.

How about these guys stop derailing this thread with opinions, and let Henry show us more of his impeccable work!

Well said Cory, each car is different, that what makes the Hot Rod world go round. I think both cars are really well thought out builds, carry on with the great work & posting updates! Thanks guys!

The mega-rake on this car will sure stand out when the car is done. Each hot rod needs something to make it stand out. Too many same-same '32's out there right now.

But, don't you all think this thing looks right-on with that high top?! How about leaving the chop til the very last, just in case? I bet the stock roof will grow on you.

Man that looks awesome!! I'm looking forward to following along with the rest of the build.

  26. Looks like some bad ass 6 foot tall guy would drive it. Thumbs up!

I don't mind the "mega rake" as @alchemy perfectly states it. I do think the same amount of tire diameter but smaller wheel (meaning more sidewall) would help tone down the modern feel.

One thing is certain, a chop will alter proportions and that will likely pull it all together. I'm eager to see it. Looks like a fun car.

  28. I really like the direction Henry is going with this build and it's my bet it will turn out KILLER....

Want to keep this thread on the positive because this car is so cool, and we all know how hard it can be to finally get a car to where you had envisioned it in your mind before you started. I say this only because I heard a lot of the negatives, especially when I put those big "basketball" Firestones and "nerf" bars on my roadster.
I didn't care if they never turned a tread on the street; my mind was made up as I had a "theme" of sorts planned.
Tires go on, tires come off, no big deal.
@BRENT and @Steadfast mfg put in words best way I would have; I think the Alloway cars were the first to pull off this "look", even though they strayed pretty deep into the much eschewed world of street rods, as witnessed here on the HAMB pretty regularly.
Time will tell, these guys may pull this off, I'm sure they will stay focussed, regardless of how the rest of us "approve" of their methods.
