It looks much more evil these days than previously. I was thinking about this project the other day, so thanks for the updates. Rad.

  2. That's really neat. Turbo is gonna heat it up in there, so keep an eye out for that. Might need to mount a fan to extract the heat.

I like the idea of a louvered firewall and maybe even some sort of vent underneath to pull the hot air out.

I also doubt it will ever hook up on those tires... :D

If I haven't previously said it... I love this project!

Say - I bet you could find room for an intercooler next to the turbo!

Neat idea for the build. I want to build a stupid fast A also.

I think a healthy dose of nitrous would have been easier to conceal and would have less negative side effects. Managing the heat is going to be a real task.

Finally an update!!! AWESOME!!!!!!!! YOU WIN!! You the man!!! Looks better than I imagined!
You are going to have 2 serious things......hot feet and a freaking handfull when it comes into boost!!! Oh, and one of the best hot rods on here IMO!

BTW-what are you doing for ignition?

Thanks to everybody for the words of encouragement. The nitrous would have been easier. I am wanting to do something that sets my car apart from the rest. I am running a msd btm Ignition.

'Bout time we got an update! Looks good. Will take more than a second glance for someone to realize somethings up.

Will also be a great cool weather driver. I suggest an alias to the name 'Hidden Agenda'... How about 'Hot Foot!"

Im running a msd pro billet distributer (painted to look like a old points) with a msd boost timming master box (hidden in the trunk), a msd coil (Mounted behind the firewall) and I am running a A Innovative LM-2 wide band O-2 sensor (hidden). But What I think will be the Key to hooking the car up is My AMS-1000. It Is an electric programable controller for the waste gate that Allows me to set the boost level at any rpm in any gear. Should help alot with tuning.
I miss haveing this car on the road so bad But I feel like the wait will be worth it. I drive this car almost daily when Its on the road. I am planning on alot of crusing back an forth to the dragstrip. Should be a good time. I am planning on a different set of wheels and tires at the track and for picking fights on the street. Nothing huge thou just some good compound to keep a good look.
What kind of wheels do you guys thinK would look good to mount up a set of et-streets and some skinny front runners?
The car will end up gloss black after I sort it out...... It may be a while.
Has anyone ever launched a clutch car off of a two step and a line lock on the clutch (hydrolic) and the brake? I think it may give me less shit to deal with at the line?????????
Next pictures will be of all of the heat shielding. Its taking forever.
    Thanks for all the comments.
    Jake

isnt a two step almost the same as anti lag

I am new to turbos but I was told that You need a 2 step to get the car to build boost on the line.

A 2-step is just an adjustable RPM limiter for burnouts & launches. For boost building...they are often referred to as Anti-Lag boxes. MSD is pretty much the one to have. You adjust the timing and the RPMs... the box retards the set timing at the set RPM, thus building boost. You won't see max boost, but a few pounds off the line is better than none. Most people just run the line lock to the front brakes to aid in the burnout.

They also sound frickin violent with the right motor!!

    cant wait......
I am using the line lock for the front brakes. But I am contemplating using another unit on my hydraulic clutch to get consent launches?????
Never heard of anyone doing it Just wanting feedback.

That turbo doesn't look real big to me. A two step will build boost but that one should get up into boost fairly quick. I would run it without and see how it goes first

All of the turbo timers I have done run the car for a se amount of time after the ignition is cut off. You can just let it idle for a minute before shutting it down and get the same results.

but then theres that whole "gotta fill the bottles" thing...:D check one of those newer ford diesel pickups out....think the turbo is back near the firewall on those. might be worth seeing what all they use to take care of the heat as well.....

Very creative, and nicely done. If you can find some industrial insulation, maybe 1.5 to 2'' thick, box it in around the turbo, exiting through the floor, bet you'll be OK. Gonna need alot of air changes to keep the heat away though, a big fan, or better yet a foward curve blower will move alot of air...my 2 cents any how.

A foward curve blower, or a utility set type of blower is similar to a heater fan, some times referred to as a squrrel cage. May not move as much air as a bladed fan, but is capable of moving quantities of air through restrictions, ( called static pressure) which is why you see them used in heaters, furnaces, etc. Given the restrictions you will undoubtedly have just thought it would be worth looking at. You can mix and match fans and motors at Grainger, or other outlets. We use lots of them for industrial applications. Some of the nascar style brake cooling fans may be large enough for your car also.

A Turbo Timer doesn't run oil through the turbo after you cut the ignition off. It lets the engine idle for a pre-set amount of time or exhaust gas temperature setting, then shuts the car off. All this does is allow the engine oil to cool down before shutting off the motor because the turbo will continue to spin for a while after the motor is turned off, but will have no oil flowing through it, causing carbon buildup on the bearings and turbine shaft over time. As stated above, you can let the car idle for a few minutes before shutting it down and accomplish the same thing as a Turbo Timer.

Some people run separate oiling systems for their turbochargers with a reservior, pump, filter, and tubing. You could set this up easily with a timer to shut the pump down about a minute after the ignition is turned off. This is really the best way because the turbocharger never sees engine oil, but it's just extra money & more complicated, which is why you don't see it too often on street cars.

Haha, a turbo doesn't need to be large in physical size to create heavy amounts of boost. That's like saying Canfield heads don't make any more power than stock heads because they are the same size, lol.

On my Dodge Ram Cummins Turbo Diesel, the stock Holset HX-35W turbocharger puts out about 42psi of boost on average. Sometimes more or less depending on engine load, weather conditions, etc. Lots of the Import guys use these same HX-35 turbos but can only put out about 15psi...Why? Because the teeny little motor can't pump out as must exhaust pressure and as much exhaust heat as the Cummins can. Exhaust pressure spins the turbo faster, and heat = energy. An HX-35 or any medium sized turbo on a small 4-cyl would have to have a choked down A/R turbine housing in order to prevent excessive lag, but that choked down housing on a larger motor would have no lag, but put out maximum boost before the end of the power band and overspin the turbocharger. The housings have just as much of an important role in boost building & delivery as do the wheels. The turbocharger must be matched to the engine size, power band, driving style, etc. The turbocharger, even with the simple mechanical components, can be finely tuned just like an engine.

Hey 100mph... What are the specs on your turbocharger? Compressor & Turbine Wheel Size/Trim? Compressor & Turbine Housing A/R, etc.?
