I just got off the phone with Paul from DM - The Hot Rod Brake Company.

The Hot Rod Brake Company website will be up and running in a couple of weeks.

Their division deuce manufacturing will continue to exist and be the manufacturing division of the hot rod brake company.

He cleared up a lot on the procedure for bleeding the brakes for me and I realize now that it isn't as big an issue as I (and some others) have thought it is or would be.

He has made a design change and upgrade to the Buick styled kit, mostly in the backing plate and is sending me some pictures.

He has also developed the previously posted Kinmont styled brakes.
Their Kinmonts will be more $ than the Buick style kit but as you can see they will also offer them for the rear, while Johnson Rod shop only offers fronts.

I will probably be ordering the Buick styled kit in the near future as it will better suit my build.

I'll stay with my big Ford drums on the rear on my Winters QC.
Paul is a great guy to talk to.

    Larry.

I made mine to look traditional old school (see my photo on page 2) and to try to match the original backing plates. I looked at these new brake styles that are mentioned here as well and could have went that way if I wanted to but decided to make my own as seen in my photos here. With that said you could also make them from stainless steel and finish them any way you want by bead blasting, high polish or even a brushed finish. You could use your imagination and add ribs or maybe even small louvers. To think about it not that much is actually showing and you can make the look to suite the build, accomplish something on your own and did I say save a bunch of money!

Pictures Paul sent me of the redesigned Buick style brake kit. I've made my choice, this will be what I order.

Yes, and it was me who was wrong. But only partially.
The DM kit that Walden's sell is not their interpretation of the Kinmonts, it is a Buick drum styled kit.
DM- The Hot Rod Brake company are now making Kinmont styled brakes which Walden's will likely also sell. So now you can be happy :D

They work great. I have run this car quite hard (it has a 347" Small Block Ford with a top loader 4 speed and I ain't afraid to try and break things on it). The brakes have never faded even when running pretty fast down the mountains from Big Bear. Well worth the money to get the performance and looks I wanted.
The caliper could have been designed differently, but he is not a caliper manufacturer, he doesn't do enough volume to tool up a custom caliper

Well, technically he was right - Walden had the New Kinmont style in their booth at the LA Roadster show, so they were showing that those were available from them. And Paul was there in the booth

Thanks for the info. Paul was good to talk to and I'll be ordering the kit. I realize that bleeding will not be that much of an issue and that he uses the Wilwood caliper.
The new design of the Buick kit looks nice too.
I'm very happy that I can get this kit, not the other Asian made version being sold.

That's great. I wasn't lucky enough to attend the LARS and no info is up on Paul's website yet on the new company name or the new products.
It all looks really good, great to see American made products.

All I know about the So-Cal brakes and the re positioning of their bleeder is that when I was at the shop this summer I was complaining about what a pain they were to bleed and Dennis showed the new top bleed caliper. The new brakes shown above are really neat.

  16. Well how can I argue with that? ;)

We spend a lot of money to make our rides look very traditional and while the cost may be hard to justify to the wife, the increased safety factor with disc brakes is well worth the price of admission. Driving the LA freeways with so-so stopping ability can only lead to an accident when a texting driver is next to you. I am grateful for JHR and the Hot Rod Brake company for investing in our safety.

Blue One -- Those photos you posted look like a very nice product. Do you happen to have one of the other side, with drum removed? I'd be interested to see how it all goes together. These would be at the top of my list for a future project.

Maybe i missed it but is there contact info for the Hot Rod Brake Company. Are they in full production of the Kinmont style brakes. I think they would be a great set up to put on some customers cars.

Since I started this thread my thinking has moved into a slightly different direction.
With the low value of the Canadian dollar it is nuts to consider a $2000 US $ brake kit.
( Sure glad I bought my quick change when the dollar was high :) )

Instead, I have found the parts to do this : http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/fake-brakes.659990/
I will add my own twist to it which I will post on my build thread when the time comes.

Because I think what rusty did turned out nice and I don't have unlimited $.
I have other parts of my build that need attention.
And, I have a good disc brake kit already paid for along with the low cost of the other components.
I'll go non fake if you want to donate to the cause with the hot rod brake company kit :D:D:D:D
Christmas is coming, I'm just sayin. :D

Nice, but OUCH on the prices. I paid $60 for a pair of 46-48 backing plates and $50 for a pair of aluminum brake scoops.
I'll do the rest myself and all it will cost will be time. :D
