I had one of those on my Fiat 500 - worked well. These units are used to uprate lots of cl***ics here. Cut a section out of the steering column, fit this in and use a switch to turn it on when needed. The Citroen/Peugeot/Renault group make a good one.
Every time someone tells me power steering or other such niceties don't belong on an old car I want to know what their daily driver is. Last time I had someone looki down their nose at me for updating things on my Comet they had their wife following them to and from the cruise in with a new jap car.
I'm an old guy with an old school 40 Ford NO power steering. This electric unit just is what the "doctor order" thanks for the info.
I won't try to convince you. You either like it or not. Need it or not. I have had many VW bug owners to old Ford Pickups that have installed my EPS unit. It is based on the 2005 Chevy Equinox, not the Cobalt. I recently installed Electric Power Steering (EPS) in my 66 Mustang (closest thing I have to a hot rod). The how to might be useful to some of you if you plan to add power steering. I have made countless modifications to this car and this is the best one to date. The EPS units are plentiful (and inexpensive) in the bone yard. Fabrication and installation is not difficult if your somewhat handy. I designed a controller that automatically adjusts the ***ist level with speed, one finger in the parking lot and sports car feel from 5MPH up. It's too bad that the thread on TFFN is member-only, because there is a lot of good information on there. One member has had great success with it on his Comechero, I believe he used the Equinox with the "Bruno Box", the unit sold on ebay. The nice thing about these units is that you can use the existing steering box, linkage, etc, so you don't have to swap big components if you don't want to. I'm planning on one in my next Falcon build.
