I have a stock 1928 briggs fordor model a which i am in the process of changing the timing gear on . I have a lot of the motor pulled apart and want to add a little more go to the motor. I was wondering if any one could help me with a head question. I just want to know what the highest compression a stock motor could handle. I see a lot of people use 5.5 to 1 but i would like to go with something more. 6 or 7 to 1. What kind of gains would i see with this swap? I also plan on doing a downdraft and an exhaust manifold down the road. Any info would be great thanks.

There is not enough in the head surface for you to mill much off. If you ever saw one cut in half you would understand - its the nature of the beast. They have very large combustion chambers

Im not looking into having my head milled, but more looking at getting a new high compression head and have seen 6 and 7 to 1 heads which i liked but i want to know if the motor will perform properly with that jump in compression and will i feel the gain in power?
