I got my hood badge for my 46' Studebaker M5 back from the chrome shop, now I would like to "highlight the "Studebaker" in the badge with red paint to set it off against the future factory green,so the million dollar question,,,how do I prep the chrome under where I'm going to paint?
scuff with emory cloth,wet/dry sand paper....I'd like the letters to last...

    thx in advance Hammers

I wouldn't scuff it at all.All you'll be doing is damaging the chrome.Paint won't stick as well to chrome, true, but it's not going to fall off due to gravity. If it chips, you can always touch it up a bit.

Go to your local auto parts store and get some No Touch Gl*** Stripper(made by Meguiar's now)that is used to remove Rain X from gl***.Put a bit on a cloth and apply to the area and wait for it to dry.Wipe off and rinse area with non ammoniated gl*** cleaner(the clear stuff they sell at auto parts stores).
I've used this many times on chrome and stainless steel with great results.Enclosed is a pic of my front bumper and stainless skirt on my Safari that was striped about 8 years ago.
