COE High output alternator

Discussion in 'Off Topic Hot Rods & Customs' started by vet57air, Dec 25, 2016.

  1. My COE is pretty much done, but there always seems to be some "tweeking". I run two 120 amp alternators and am looking to upgrade the camper unit, so I can run my rear A/C when truck is running. I have upgraded to some 2/0 cable and am looking for a alternator that has high idle output.
Have been looking at DC Power Engineering who have a 270 amp. unit that looks like it may fill the bill. Anyone have any experiences or recommendations?

  3. I went to their website, and there is no mention of duty cycle. I would like to know how long it will put out 270A before it goes up in smoke. Some of the factory high output stuff will only produce the high output for a few seconds, then back down to 30-60 A for longer term charging, I suspect this is the same. (PCM controlled is a dead give-away)

  4. Good question. I will have to ask. I had talked with them before and they were going to make it internally regulated. Price is pretty steep but the 200 amps at idle was what I was after.
