High School cars, who's got em'

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by jakespeed63, Dec 4, 2005.

  1. Titus' story about the old man's 32, from high school, made me wonder how many HAMB'rs got their rides from the old days. I still have my 69' Nova SS, I bought when I was 16. Restored it back in 85' and swapped motors over the years, but she is back to original and been sitting in a garage in Cleveland for the last 10 yrs. My 64' Olds has A/C so I brought that down when I moved. No room currently for the SS, so there it sits. I do manage to drive it occasionally. My teenage nephew gets a thrill everytime we go for a ride. Also took it to both 10 and 20 yr H.S. reunions. My old auto shop pals got a charge out of it, even took old sweetheart AND her 12yr old son out for a ride and couple of burn-outs. That 350 4 speed with 4:10's are still impressive. The girls dig the bench seat too!

I drove a 36 Ford p/u in high school. It's under the knife as we speak. I graduated in 1986. I started building it in 82.

Still have mine. Parked in a shed for past 15 years or so. Nothing wrong with it just got tired of it. It's a '73 Mustang Mach 1.

Know of others that did the same, mustangs and camaros. In another 10 or 20 years they will be pulled out and called "barn fresh" vintage muscle cars.

Never really thought of mine as a muscle car but maybe in another 20 years.

ps. first car I bought that was actually road-worthy is a '59 Chrysler and still have it and drive it. Great car.

I owned my 57 Chevy for 12 years after high school but have moved on to better Hotrods. I got out of school/prison in 1983.

I still drive my high school car. My lowly '64 Rambler. Like you I also drove it to both my 10 year and 20 year reunions. Man what memories THAT brought back! Talk about an ice breaker (like I need one). Now it's tradition I will drive it to every reunion. The motor heads from school really liked the changes since they last saw it. The reunion committee even had some fun with me and gave me an award for the "Only Classmate Still Driving Their High School Car" - it was a super nice picture of me (car) on the starting line at the nostialgia drags with it this summer. Seems they're connected!!!! I even saw a few classmates at the drags - major dejavu!!!!

I still have my '61 Impala I drove in high school. I still drive it but it needs paint and interior. I also have a 65 Belvedere I 2dr sedan I bought when I was 15. I have never driven the Belvedere but one day I will. This thread struck me kinda wierd because I chased down a kid yesterday who was driving an 88 Monte Carlo that I sold in 2000. I am trying to buy it back. I know it's not trad but I have a lot of memories associated with the car. It was my dad's daily from 88-93 and I then drove it from 93 to 00. It was the nice car I could take on dates and actually be able to hold a conversation in. The Impala was a little too loud and dirty to use as a date machine. I just wish MY dad had kept his cars from back in the day....

Surely their are others on the board who still have their first car or HS car so lets hear about it!

I've still got my '66 Fairlane that I drove in school. Still has my high school parking permit in the window. It mostly stays in my dad's barn, but I get it out and drive it on occasion. Some day I'll fix it up.

  18. Still have my 62 Fairlane. Bought it when I was 15. Spent spring break when I was 16 pulling the 221 and 2spd and installing the 289 and c4.

I got my shoebox when I was 14. Paid $50 out of a junkyard on San Fernando rd. Me and Dad fixed it up. Dad did the interior. I drove it in H.S. in various shades of primer. Flathead,O.d. twice pipes, and of course a Muntz chrome under dash 8 track. It's been through a 12vt. upgrade, several paint/primer jobs, kept it all through the years, still drive it. Oh yeah I graduated H.S. in 1974:eek: Sparky

I have the pickup my dad got for me when I was 15, I did an engine swap on it when I was 17, now I'm in my 40s. too bad I wrecked it a couple months ago, I have to do more bodywork now. Wife still has the Dart her dad got her when she started college.

  23. My brother Scarliner-suprised me ,by getting back my old high school car....Black'56 chevy 150 2 dr sed-I had found it again after 33 years of it sitting idle, since I had sold it.
The guy was just trying to get way too much out of it.
So I had told him I'd take it......and at his price, and would pay him as soon as we met up again in HELL....:D Thankfully Bro' Reggie was a lil more diplomatic and got the deal done.Ha!

As it had never been registered nor driven in that length of time-It is in a hell of a shape, but thanks to him I now have plans to resurect it to its former state.

I'll have to re title it as the state of Missouri had no record of me owning it.

My folks bought me my 56 Chevy for my 15th birthday. It's changed a million times over the years... heres what it looked like last time... 235/powergilde, dual carbs, tube header, Mallory dist, Mcgurk cam...

decided it needed a V8 again and a couple carbs...

swapped the frame too... the original was damn near ground through the bottom... :D Might as well fix the crummy bodywork too... the whole passenger side was fixed with bondo sometime in its life! here's how it sits right now...

I work on it when I can... which isn't often... don't care either. This car will never go anywhere. It brought every one of my kids home from the hospital.. my wife and I on our first "date"... this car is me.

I've owned it for 18 years. Maybe it'll get an interior this time!

I got my GMC in 1981, I was 13 at the time. Here it is in December of '84, my dad and I after the first hot lap...

And as it sits now...20+ years later.

I keep changing little stuff, especially wheels and tires. I am probably on the 10th different wheel/tire/hubcap combo.

I had a 68 Cougar GTE with a factory 427. I loved the car and my exact car came up for sale on Ebay about six months ago. Didn't sell at $49k and the guy wants $75k for it now. I sold it college for $8100. Ouch. That was only 17 years ago. My other investments haven't done nearly that well.

I don't have any pictures of the way it looked in highschool. The car has been through a major transformayion since then.In highschool it ran 12.30 now it runs 10.02 so the motor has really come along way. the car is now my fathers but we race it together.
