I’m installing a mini starter when I turn the key the starter spins but doesn’t engage. I’ve replace the solenoid and just can’t figure out what I have wrong.

Most high torque mini starters have their own built in solenoid and you have replaced a new solenoid?

Did you bother to look at the instructions and measure the distance from the ring gear to the mounting face where the starter bolts on?
    (That’s the engagement distance)

Last question is did you get the right starter for your application?

These things aren’t that hard to make work.

  3. The other question is did you connect the solenoid on the mini starter up correctly so it actually gets power?

Bench test it to see if the Bendix is activating.

I’ve been messing with it if I turn key it spins. If I jump a wire from bat on starter it engages. It won’t work with the key though.

The solenoid is new and works when engaging the motor. Just not when I turn the key. I’ve put a jump wire from that terminal and touched every port on my ignition and nothing.

Put the wire onto screw above instead.

yup, the little screw terminal is where the little wire from the key switch connects.

Summit is good about having online instructions. Be aware the photo I posted does not match what you have. Did you put motor wire (motor to solenoid) onto correct terminal on the replacement solenoid?

  20. Hook up your ignition key wire to the small screw post

Move your battery wire and alt wire over to the other post.

    Safety switch?
Like a neutral safety or clutch switch?
What are you running as far as trans and shifter etc
Lots of diagrams on line etc.

I think your purple wire should go to that small screw between the two big posts.
