hillman superminx 1962 new ride!!!!

Those tires/wheels don't belong on that Super Minx, hell they wouldn't have a chance on a Sunbeam IMP either. They will fit on a Hillman Husky though.

 

I'm thinking a roof chop will be h**l with that curved rear window, but going full gasser style, with a Euro twist (blown ford v6) would be cool

 

What size are your new tires I want some bigger meats under my 59 convertible.

Does that thing have a European license plate on it? If not it should!

 

Why do they need cutting? the wheels look like they fit, just. also, isnt the door in the way?

 

it has a british license plate on it.

 

not much room in there, had to roll inside of arch this morning after going for a test ride.

fitted grille back on, still waiting for cap.

still need to raise front, cut rear arches, and change steering wheel.

going to keep stock motor this year an change next winter.(no idea what with yet though!!!?)

 

made up a wheel boss from parts laying about,
heres the wheel fitted.





and fitted extended spring shackles to rear.

 

steering wheel looks good...I have done a few that way too

had a go today at puttin name on,
got this much done. still to finish.

 

finished name on drivers side, if it looks rough its because i've never done it before!!!!







moved onto passenger side, until rain stopped play.

 

looks rather bare without trim!!!









yep good old redoxide!!!

undecided on roof colour yet.

 

state of play at the moment, got to do door tops, then a second coat
all over.



the other half gave me a hand to rub down, she decided to leave her hand prints on the dry paint!!!

 

second coat applied to everything, bright work back on,
a bit patchy in places but that'll have to do for now.
christ the heat has knackered me!!!!

austin 10 1947 beam axle.



amazing stud pattern is 4 stud ford, same as minx!!!

 

no going back now!!! lol



axle and springs just mocked up, got some work to do to get steering correct etc.







in this pic it looks too narrow, but needs to be centred etc.



and engine and box together.

 

some metal work cut out, gearbox lowered and moved back, plenty of room for rad & fan.
bench seat can stay!

engine removed, now fitting springs and beam, then back on its wheels for engine& box fitting.

 

this is where i'm upto at present, bit of tidying on front shackles(modified ford pop) still to make rear mounts but slowly getting there, hope to have it back down on its wheels by the new year!!!!

Looks lovely, and I like the choice of engine (been rebuilding a 2.8 Cologne for years, hoping to get a reliable 200 hp street engine when finished) Just remember that they are filled with oil sludge by now, the cam's worn out, and they are seriously easy to overheat
