Hberg lives, I think this is the photo from Stock Car Racing you were thinking about. That was at Bristol in 1982, if my memory is still working right. Paul Scheuerman, the All-Pro Bull, was a great guy and always fun to have around. He wanted to have a pre-race belly-bumping contest. He lost. The skates probably didn't help much.

Like I said, he was fun to have around. That same year, when one of our local high schools in southern Indiana purchased a new eagle mascot costume, I asked them for the old one. They gave it to us, my wife patched it up, and we put it on my son, Matt, who was just 12 at the time. We took it to Nashville for the All-American 400 for its first appearance, and it was a hit. As soon as Phil Holmer of Goodyear saw it, he took Matt over to the truck and got him one of those blue vests. Matt was then the unofficial Goodyear Eagle. Paul also loved it, and he and Matt had a ball together. Paul would ride him on his shoulders while he skated down the front straightaway, and Matt would flap his wings like he was trying to take off. Wish I had photos of that.

Racing was a lot more fun in those days. This has to make it into the book I'm working on.

That is it big guy!............I have it in one of my scrape books....stay tuned as I will be picking your brain here..............I have to kick myself for not going to any races after Hberg closed in 73.......I started going to dirt races again locally in 81 but didn't see my first pavement race again until the Cavalcade at Sandusky in 85........I missed all those unreal ASA races with my favorite short track cars of all time those sleek curvy Camaros of the mid 70's to early 80's........I do have the 1980 DriPower on DVD which is great!

My first ASA 400 at Winchester I'm afraid to admit was the 1990 version......

Here's another photo of the Jim Burns fire at Hberg that Bushy posted the clipping on..........

Jim was a rare visitor to Hberg in the early season.......he was from the Johnstown area and normally raced dirt back when Jennerstown was clay.

Hberg would try to open up on Sunday afternoons in March before other tracks in the Northeast opened and as a result saw some bigger fields of late models..........they would switch over to Saturday night racing in late April early May......usually with a 100 lapper to start the night season off..

Here are three great ones in their "driver suits" before the start of what I believe to be the 1969 the Pgher 200 (it was changed to 250 laps in 1970) at Hberg...

TC, Joy Fair and Harold Smith.....................
