You have to register for Historical plates to get the YOM plates. So driving it daily is technically a No-No. The local constables are likely to let you slide so long as you don't drive it like a....well you know. Insurance can get a "gotcha" too. Historical insurance doesn't normally cover you for use as a Daily Driver. Regular plates and regular insurance avoids all the possible "gotcha's" - but no YOM plates allowed. That's my take on it. BTW IF you decide on Historical plates - regiater the YOM plates at the same time - it costs less that way. If you add the YOM plates later they whack you harder$$$$$

Yep. I checked into running Kansas YOMs on my Ford, but no-go. Ohio YOMs aren't bad. My '64s' single tag is green and white with enough patina to make it look like a barn find...:) At least they're not red, white and blue like the tags we've had for 20 years.

True enough about the cops not h***ling you about driving on Historics. As to collector cars insurance,I'm certain all companies require you to own at least one licensed daily driver. Unless there's a mileage or other similar stipulation, I think they'd be hard pressed to not pay off on a claim no matter where you're driving. There are TONS of cruises every day and night, no?....:D

If you dont run collector car insurance theres no issues as long as you dont get caught by the po-po
I had the BMV chic telling me I could run Historic plates but she said if you drive every day you might get a ticket. She told me that like it was top secret.
IF your running liabilty insurance they dont care about mileage.
My insurance lady is into old cars here. Hell one day she called me and said I need to see your car. She wanted a picture of it for her dad not my file.

JJ, I guess it's the non-trusting part of me - I figure if there's ANY way the insurance company can wiggle out of a payment they will. I am quite certain my insurance (grundy) specifically says I'm NOT supposed to drive the cars to work- I always kinda wondered what would happen if I got into a wreck if I were to drive 'em to work  that is. Not that'd I do that:eek: - I am also certain they won't cover my trucks - if I was towing with them - I may have to switch them over to "regular" insurance once I get the digger done.
About the cruises -yep - there sure are - I used to keep a list in my glove box - just in case I got pulled over by some overzealous cop. SO far the police have been really good to me - even gave me a ride to the gas station and back one night my '47 konked out. Quite a big difference from my younger days when I got pulled over once a week like clockwork.
