    Dave,
Welcome to the hamb. Keep the stories coming i know you have alot more. The idea about starting a thread on how you got your car back is a great one.

You are correct. There was a "Dirty 30". It's still around and has been at the York Reunion. It's red with a snorkel scoop now:eek:. I know I have a picture somewhere... Maybe Dave or Pork have one. Mike

Here is a photo of the original Dirty Thirty. The late Bob Parmer was the driver. It has been modified considerably over the years. They say it is the original car, but you really can't tell anymore.

Charlie Hill even dabbled in the Pennsylvania sprint car scene for a short time. Still dark gray primer, 456, skunk stripe!!!

Thanks Dave, I had no idea Bob Parmer drove it. I think I have a picture of it on the scales at Aquasco. Wish I knew where the pic is... Mike

Hey Pork welcome to the HAMB, from a hometown gal (Hanover, PA). Good talking with you & Wanda (ME.G***er) at the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green this summer, we have plans to go back again in 2009 and hope to see you again. If not perhaps we'll run into each other in Hanover during one of our visits home.

Here's another shot of the Filthy Forty at the NATIONALS in 1963 with a few of the very important people ***ociated with it during those years. The black gentleman on the left is the everpresent Albert Stanton, a fine young man and an outstanding crew member. The guy in the center is Larry Roberts. He would be called, using modern day terminology, the "Crew Chief". Larry was indispensible and responsible in many ways for the success of the whole deal. The heavy guy in the darker shirt is Charlie Hill.....the owner and mastermind behind the entire operation. The car was built by Charlie in the small nondescript garage behind the family home in Columbia, Pa. The other man on the right I can't identify at this time. Maybe Pork can help with his name. I believe the outstanding driver, Pork Zartman, may have been the cameraman and therefor not in the picture.

    Eightyduece,
That photo of the Filthy Forty you posted at York in 1969 is after the car was sold to some guys in Wisconsin in 1965 or so, and then was purchased by a Pennsylvania group and returned to the east coast several years later. While it was in Wisconsin, not only was a Ford engine added for a while, but the top was chopped at some point. This is evident if you look closely at your photo.

It wasn't too much longer after this that the car was destroyed in a finish line crash at Maple Grove drag strip. A very sad end to a great car.

I grew up in Pittsburgh, lived in Northwestern, PA, and have been in Central PA for about 5 years. It always amazes me to read about all of the '60s racing history right here in our backyards in Pennsylvania. Seems like PA was a real hot spot for hot rodding and drag racing in the 1950s/1960s. Wish I coulda been there.

I would love to see all kinds of stories about Grumps early days. Specifically the lengendary Hemi-killing 327 Nova.

A little more history....several years later. Photo of the Filthy Forty some time in the late 60's after it was sold to the Wisconsin group. Looks like Indy. The car was Ford powered at the time, and the top was chopped a little while later (as can be seen in Eightydeuce's photo posted earlier).

The car came back to Pennsylvania and met it's end sometime around 1970 or so. I think the car had more than one owner in Pa. Someone bought it and brought it "back home" and then it was sold to another person or group of people. If we can ever get Pork back on here, he knew some of these guys and has photos of it with the chopped top.
