My '56 has no historic significance, and it's not yet up to snuff for an indoor entry at the GNRS, but I will bring it to the drive-in:

    Another great custom car Announcement!

    Mike Young's 1960 Chevy Impala.
Designed by Jimmy Vaughan, built by Gary Howard, interior by Vernon McKean and scalloped and flamed by Rod Powell.

This car was built in the mid 1990's and was a real sensation where ever it went. The first show it was entered was at the GNRS in 1995, and it was so fresh that the paint had not been rubbed out, and Rod Powell had not yet added his signature scallops and flames in lavender to the amazing Abalone flake and pearl Gary Howard paint-job.

The car is an exercise in extreme subtile customizing Gary Howard – and Jimmy Vaughan – are known for.
The Top was chopped, but only mildly, it has rounded corners, pancaked trunk, reshaped and rounded fins... basically every body panel has been altered, and you really need to see it parked next to a stock 1960 Chevy to see all the differences.
The interior in Pearl white rolled & pleated naugahyde with 1960;s style narrow pleats is another high light of this car that I look forward to take a close look at in January.

The paint-job is something really special,, and is difficult to capture on film (or digital) But this Custom Rodder photo shows a bit of the nice sparkle.

Hi Dennis, If you would like to design something standard that is much different than the GNRS plaque give away , and sell them at your booth , or have Luke sell them for you at his booth that is totally fine with all of us. I think this will be a way of all attendee's to purchase a momento of this special occasion . Thanks, Axle

  17. Sell me that one, and design a 2011 participant plaque.
anyway, Put me down for a mortal plaque. :)

  18. How about Sam Dekruyf's 58 Impala as a 2000's car. Designed by Steve Stanford, painted by Pete Santini. A wonderful car that is current yet a tribute to Watson style!

You're right! Your car's a piece of crap. I think you should let me drive it back to Mass. after the show, so the poor SoCal guys don't have to look at it anymore! :D

Seriously that car's gorgeous! Show it off!

Thank you all for the compliments. I like the way the car looks too, but there are a number of paint and interior details that are not ready for prime time. I hope they'll be corrected by next year.

  22. E....E...EPIC!!

Busy with work but will see if I can go... So many great cars....

Love of the idea of John D'Agostino's '51 Mercury, how about the Nostalgic Sleeper? I second Cadzilla it made a big impression years ago and I was not into customs at all 15 years ago.
