Three weeks ago on my way to work at 5 in the morning, 3 horses must of got out on some ones farm. They where standing in the road 2 went on way an 1 went the other. Next thing I know they bolt back across in front of me. Guess what 2 dead horses and a tore up truck. I only saw the 1 come across the sheriff's deputy found the other 1. I think some ones got that one.

I don't think a deer strike is considered an "Act of God", but I might be wrong, (don't think so though).

And as long as I am posting anyway....

Came within a couple a few inches of nailing a big mule deer a little east of Van Horn a few nights ago in my wife's Tahoe traveling at 70 mph, turned around the curve, bam there it was. With the maximum tire chirping veer to the left, and the deer staying planted where it was, I figure it cleared the right mirror by an inch max...

I will take this one as a "W", sorry about your 56....

Welcome to the club, although technically the deer hit me. 8 point buck in full rut put his head down and charged out of the median right into the side of my truck.

Anybody that thinks deer are an endangered species hasn't been to the Western and NW Illinois. You see more deer hit on the road than rabbits. Not that there are really more deer, the rabbits are just that much smarter..... Deer are stupid, stupid animals.

I hit a deer years ago in my 78 T-Bird. Was going ONE mile an hour in a park. Deer jumped out and landed on my hood. I had to replace everything in front of the windshield. Deer left blood and ran off. Couldn't track him.
Wouldn't eat a running deer anyway. Muscles full of adrenaline taste bitter.

I got another one that year with my 30-06.

I used to drive through a stretch of open range on my way to work. After a few close calls, I learned to scan the bushes along the side of the road for cows. One morning, driving into work, I saw a cow head sticking out of a bush up ahead so I slowed way the hell down. The lady in front of me in a minivan kept cruising right along. Wouldn't you know, just before she got to the cow it booked it across the road. She ended up hitting it center m*** at probably 50-55mph. Messed that van up, BAD, I'd guess it was totalled. She was pretty rattled, too. Damn cow rolled off the car and ran into the desert.

Georgia is so over populated with deer that stories about hitting them are a dime a dozen, so I'll tell a funny story about one incident.
Late 80s and my son was enrolled in aircraft mechanic school down in Americus, Ga, about 90 miles South of here thru some lonely roads.
He and a cl***mate/friend )local also)had come home for the weekend and were returning to school late Sun. night driving my '73 GMC 4X4.
They came upon a roadside gathering including an almost dead deer, the car that hit it along with driver and p***enger, and a GA State Patrol trooper. In GA the people who hit a deer have first call for the meat and they didn't want it.
So the boys were given permission to take the deer with them. They cut it's throat to bleed it and after flow ceased, into the bed of truck it went for the now only 20-30 mile trip on to school.
Discussing it on the way, they decided that the best place to dress the deer was in the large shower room of the old Air Force barracks that now served as their dormitory, since they would have plenty of water and a drain to clean up things afterwards, makes good sense to me.
So after dressing deer, they were out knocking on dormitory room doors of other students that they knew had fridges in their rooms.
Meanwhile, another late arrival student had decided to shower before bed and stumbled half asleep into the shower room with the time now about midnight. You can just imagine his reaction to the strewn about innards, blood, and piled up meat!!!!!
The screams that could be heard throughout the dorm are still the subject of stories p***ed down from one cl*** to the next!
However all turned out well, the meat was stored for the night and a great BBQ was held after school the next day!

I really hate that for your car. My wife took one out this spring in her brand new Civic.
Farmer's paid $4,600 for it all.

And to think I used to dressed up in dumb looking **** and cover myself in stink to crawl up a tree with $500 worth of killing stuff just to freeze all day...in hopes of just seeing one! What an idiot I was.

Except for the tenderloin....the only thing they're good for is jerky! IMHO

Sorry for the accident ... I know it's small consolation, but it could have been worse. I saw some 'net pics sometime back where the deer came through the windshield ... think it killed the driver also. And some friends from here in AZ hit one riding tandem on a motorcycle some years back ... they survived, but were in the hospital for a couple of months.

Glad you are ok. I know folks that did not make it after. The deer is a thick beast and they are strong. I have hit a couple of them. One car was never the same the other has so much bondo in it I am no longer happy with it. there is nothing you can do even if you drive slow. we had a close call last month coming back from a famer's market. The wife and I were talking. We were driving very slow on the back roads of Maryland. out of nowhere about 8 deer come out and walked accross the road. We stooped and let them p***. Hey it could have been much worst happy bithday man

Knock on wood, I've never hit a deer. I've seen many around where I drive and had a few close calls over the years. I guess it's just a matter of time.
To the OP, I had a guy pull out in front of me and I hit him with my O/T sedan. Nothing major, no one was hurt and he admitted fault. It happened on my wedding anniversary and needless to say that ****ed up our day and plans.

hit a deer in my '61 corvair , car needed paint anyway. sad thing was the hood was the only panel that didn't need repair before the accident. still had 2 lights on the right side to get home, and despite a pretty hard hit [40mph] the car did not leak a drop of antifreeze:D

Folks, Dave ain't kiddin'. He and I live in the same region of Georgia. We are overrun with deer! I have had two encounters with hitting deer. The first time just about totaled my car. The second time wasn't so bad (maybe for the deer, but not me).

For all of you who live in regions where deer are abundant, by all means, watch out. Hitting deer head on can be deadly! I know of many cases where the body of the deer would come through the windshield, killing the driver.

Years back, I viewed a wreck where the deer came over the hood, through the windshield legs first. No survivors in that situation.

I am glad you are OK. Good thing it didn't come up over the hood into the windshield. I hit one and was braking hard. It started coming up on the hood and I let off the gas and ****ed it under the vehicle.

One of my co-workers is a transplanted "Yooper" (sp?) living in Iowa and was telling me the same thing. He's loving hunting corn fed Iowa deer. Never been a hunter but I'm thinking of starting to thin the darn things out a little more. Besides actually having hit one last Fall I've probably had a dozen very close calls in the past 18 months. I work 3rd shift and see them on both legs of my commute. I drive with an eye on each ditch and one foot hovering over the brake pedal.

I live in SW Minnesota, but only 8 miles from Iowa. It's corn and beans (and deer) for a far as the eye see here. It is common to see 8-12 deer in my back yard. I live on the edge of town next to a corn field.

Anyone have a nice rust free Left front fender for a 56 Chevy?
