I'm way too far away for the install, but maybe some of the money we sent can be used for a run to Jack in the Box ;)

Are you referring to Rubio's? When I was in San Diego last January for a week I ate there three times and all of their food was excellent as usual....

Just sent you $50.00 via PayPal as a gift. Don't know if you'll get it prior to leaving with the motor for Diego but I know it will go to good use.

YES on Rubio's, and Sombreo - just around the corner from me. If I go longer than a week without a couple fish tacos, or a fish burrieto, I start to viberate... :)

I've talked w Tim and we've agreed the best course of action at this point [ he was havin some troubles obtainin some necessary parts to complete the build as well ] is to NOT bring down the engine for Christmas after all but for me to take the intake, carb, & dizzy OUT of the Merc for him to have to take back with him to install ON the new engine to run with so as to "dial it in" before transfer -- takes the pressure off him for the holidays w his family :D

I'm THANKFULL to have SO many friends on this forum who are making this possible fOR me - that I can continue my lifelong "mission" of helpin others -- THANK YOU ALL!

    GOOD ONya!

GOOD plan Thomas, and I would be willing to make the run up to Hanford to pick the mill up, bring it down to you. CALL ME before Tim's arrival - I want to shake his hand, buy him a beer and a couple fish tacos at the very LEAST!!! Better yet - we ALL meet up for a bite somewhere in town... :)

Is the Ford Wagon left out on the street? Is that the one that needs a wiring harness? Next??

No Butch... kind of a deterrent for speeders passing on the RIGHT. There is a school down the street, and past SAFETY issues with flying asshats when school lets out. 'Behula' is kinda wired just enough to run... :( Merry Christmas, Tim

TIM, Bring me, and others who may be interested, up to speed on exactly which car is the "new" Y-Block headed for? Is it the Mercury or the Ford? What else does "IT" need, and what does the "other" car need? It sounds like one car needs an engine, the other primarily needs a wiring harness and installation. I'll help out with a wiring harness for the next "project", but I'd need to know how many circuits and that sort of thing are needed. I used to stop and offer help to people that appeared to be stranded on the side of the road; my wife used to get really upset with me, and it did't matter to her when I said for her to put herself in that position; what she would want or expect?. Like I said earlier, I help out where and how I can, and most of it is related to this automotive hobby that has us in her strangle-hold. I've been taken advantage of a few times, not trusted by folks who don't know me (everyone should always be cautious when strangers are involved), and have had others actually "expect more of you" than just help them out of the situation they're in (???), and there are people "I" refuse to help. Keep us posted on the progress, Tim and Tim.

I just checked out the Go-Fund-Me account, and the total now exceeds what was needed due to one person's donation. Thank you, STAN the MAN!!!

  16. Finally got the "spring cups" yesterday. My supplier didn't have the size I needed in LA so they cam from Tennessee. Things don't move across the US as fast this time of year. Anyway, heads are together and ready to bolt on. I feel much better that I will be able to run the engine in, be nice to have it ready to "plug and play" when the time comes.

A little story to start your Christmas season in the right spirit.

When four of Santa's elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce
toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Christmas
    pressure.

Then, Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which
    stressed Santa even more.

He went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about
    to give
birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows
    where.

When he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the
toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a glass of cider and a shot of
    rum.

In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke
into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor.
He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off
    the end of the broom.

Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the
door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big
    Christmas tree.

The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a
lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick
    it?'

And so began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas
    tree.

Not a lot of people know this.

Took this picture of my hand yesterday while I was out busily getting ready for Christmas like the other million people in Phoenix. As I was zipping down the I-10 freeway I saw a older model minivan stopped on the side of road with a flat and something strongly compelled me...no, was almost yelling at me from inside my chest to stop. As I approached the minivan I noticed it was a family with two small children and the van was completely packed to the roof. The man told me he had been there for awhile and no one had stopped. In a big city like this we usually assume that the person has a cell phone and will call a tow truck or AAA and we don't bother...this day was different for me. He couldn't get to his spare tire because of all the stuff and as I pulled my equipment out of my Jeep he explained he had lost his job and was traveling to New Mexico to live with family. He also explained he had no money to give me and I told him I'm not stopping to make money but just to help. I scraped my hand while putting my spare tire on his minivan and I could tell he felt really bad since I was helping him. (the scratch was no big deal) After getting the tire on I had him follow me to Discount Tire. As the crew worked on his van and replaced his tire I could tell he was very worried how much it was going to cost as he discussed it with his wife. He was a very polite man and once again that voice inside me guided me. I asked the manager of Discount tire if I could have a word with him in private. He had me step into his office and I asked if I could pay for the services and the new tire. He looked at me and smiled..."There will be no charge for them today". The family didn't know this as I grabbed my spare and wished them all well. The man and his family was very polite and gracious. So, it only cost me an hour of my time and a little scrape but what I continue to feel in my heart today is worth my weight in gold.

I have some stories as well -- about Discount Tire managers in *my* experiences :)

Wellll -- I went out on a "loop" this afternoon and "strayed" some from my usual haunts [ got that "go this way" feelin and followed it several times ] -- each time coming upon someone havin troubles and bein able to help them on their way -- untill -- the final incident -- comin around the curve on E-B I-8 near Spring I noticed quite a bit of rubber in the one lane that I had to dodge -- I had just moved over TO the one lane from the four as I approached the curve because I got one of my "feelins"

Ahead - in the CD - I noticed a small car w it's hazards on and LF down w 2 figures between the Jersey wall and the car -- "lit up" to "land" behind them then switched to hazards only to mitigate the probable "lookielou" effect on traffic.

LF had blown and thrown it's tread - beating the fender - popping the headlight - and damaging the driver's side door as well Female driver VERY shook and male passenger a little excited as well

They're workin on changin the tire and he says they're ok - but - my "feelin" says go check anyways spare FLAT totally [ just stuck a thumb in the sidewall to verify ] Soooooo -- out w the air tank and presto -- servicable spare now the gal's cryin BUT it's a happy cry.

Merry Christmas exchanged and away I launched to be home w family and friends for our evenin celebration. [ we do ours Christmas Eve ] sure put me in the spirit for it

    A Christmas Story
Christmas morning, 1997, my birthday, I was headed up to the mountains pulling my HEAVY work trailer. Suddenly a trailer tire violently blew out and shredded. As I struggled to the shoulder the trailer's hubcap came sailing past like a frizbee. I came to a smoking-grinding halt and hiked up the road to retrieve the hubcap. I had just returned to the vehicle, [all the while contemplating the hour or more it was going to take me to change the tire due to the trailers weight and access to the spare], when an older model Chevy pickup pulled up behind me. The driver got out and introduced himself, seems I had stopped to help HIM 9 years previously when he had run out of gas on the mountain in a snowstorm. With his help, the chore of changing the tire was MUCH lighter. When I asked what I owed him he just laughed. What are the odds of this being random? "Pay it Foward"

    nother Christmas story
One Christmas eve, while enroute to a party I'd been invited to attend, I noticed on the other side of the freeway, a disabled vehicle that was occupied. Returning from the party, several hours later, after nightfall, the vehicle was still there. I stopped and inquired as to the problem. The young couple, with their small child in the back seat, were traveling to visit relatives in Arizona for Christmas. Their car was in poor shape and their tires were worse. They'd had a flat in San Diego and then had another at the spot where I found them. Without sufficent funds to remedy their situation, they were destitute and desolate and rapidly growing colder. With the help of a friendly CHP officer running interference for us we hobbled their crippled car off the freeway to a safe well-lighted area where I removed the flat tire and with the flat spare also, proceded to my shop where I mounted up 2 tires from my stock, and returned to install them on the couples car. When they protested that they could not pay for the tires, I handed them one of my cards that I keep for just such an occasion. It says "Assisting you has been my pleasure. I ask for no payment other than for you to pass on the favor by helping someone in distress that you may encounter". I wished them a "Merry Christmas" and sent them on their way. I had more fun doing this than I'd had at the party. The Highwayman

    did I mention my birthday's Christmas? ;)

A *different* Christmas run this year --

    Sun Dec 25, 2011 7:43 am

    Well --

This is the first Christmas Eve in neigh onto 40 years that wasn't spent here on the "ranch"

My kids have grown up & have their own kids -- both have GREAT familys & hectic productive lives --

    My daughter's in Virginny w her's & my son's up in Rancho Bernardo w his --

Due to the "production" of gittin his family down here, the "witch" & I decided to "carry it to em" & cruised up to RB in 4RESQ 3 [ my 56 Mercury Amblewagon ]

Had to leave Shela home as m boy's family has a small dog, cat & bunny & it mightent do to interject a larger, type A girl-angel into the mix -- TRUST Shela, I do but theirs have never met her --

    anyways --

Had a real nice, albiet NOISY ;) dinner [ my daughterin law's a GREAT cook & my son grilled me a steak to perfection ]

the kid's gifts were a HIT -- thanke to a leetil collusion tween my son & my witch bout what they was wishin for

    annnnd

on the way "back to the ranch"

I got to make anuther familys Christmas eve better as they were stranded on the EB I-8, JWO the 125, on the RS w an overheated, older SUV -- the water pump was leakin slowly [ unbenownst to them ] and they had run outta coolant

first questions I asked were "did it die? or did you turn it off?" she gave the *right* answer -- she'd turned it off BEFORE it died [ she'd noticed the temp climbing ]

it took ALL the water I had, but that was just enuf to fill the radiator and the OF resovouir -- so -- they were good to go to GIT home fer Christmas

Made ours that much better as well

Shela was right happy to have us home agin

Felize Navidad to one and ALL!

Wow, I HELPED a fella from Sweden some years back -- he was stranded on the I-8 w brake problems w his beautiful woodie -- he'd been attending the yearly woodie "gathering" @ Moonlight beach here locally and was travelling to Arizona when I encountered him stranded and arranged for him to have a safe place to keep the car till he could return for it. [ if I recall correctly, it graced my back yard for a couple of weeks ;) ]

He then did *this* for, & about me :D proving it's a small world when one loves what one does  -- THANK YOU Flatred53 for yer donation! o_O from around that wide world :)

toDAY's BEST [ out of nine incidents ] had a GREAT day out "Playin on the Freeway"

family was stranded in a BAD place w no "juice" -- alternator bad, so they'd been runnin on their battery till it gave up the ghost where I found em --- NOT a good place to BE on Christmas day! [IMG]:(

SOOOOO on their promise to return it to me -- after they git their alternator replaced -- I installed *MY* booster battery to enable em to drive away and git home safely -- hope they keep their word [IMG];) most I help in this fashion DO [IMG]:)

the few that haven't, well, *that* costs ME [IMG]:(

I've done this same rescue scenerio dozens of times and only hadta buy a few batteries over the years -- MOST folks KEEP their word --

after they left, I checked the black SUV to see if I'd be able to perform a "Coyote" trick on it for it's absent owner -- it had blown it's LR tire and tread whipped the whole side -- inCLUDING ripping the LR door handle OFF the door - went to git out my camera to take a pic of the damage and discovered I'd left it at home [IMG]:(

anyways, the spare lowerin device had a key lock and w-out the key I was stymied
[IMG]:( HAD I some way to lo circumvent the lock, I'd have changed out the blown tire, installed the spare, and driven away chuckling [IMG]:)

    "Coyote Tricks" like these [IMG]:)

Made MY day helpin this family!

New Year's day run THIS year w my Chevy Lumina -- first time Shela and I have been out to "play" since the Merc's engine blew in late October -- light traffic NObody stranded -- Over the bridge and thru the woods [ park ] a couple of times -- down to the dog park for Shela -- THEN - on the way home -- I ALmost git sideswiped by an IDIOT tryin to go STRAIGHT on the 163 NB when he's IN the lane TO go I8 EB! NO signal! NO warning! Just comes across the solid white line like there's NO one else on the road! :p NO "contact" luckilly -- but if there had been, my dashcam vid would have been providential! :) RIGHT after that, I come across a fella I know from the swap meet -- @ 1:00 to 1:04 ---- you kin see his panel truck on the RS as I flash by -- I maneuver to the Texas OR and shift around to go back on the frontage road to reenter the freeway and come up behind him

You kin see him again @ 2:02 to 2:04 as I pass by on the frontage road returnin --

He's had a BO on the RR IN the fast lane! But was able to make it to the RS, where, RIGHT at that point, there was a paved turn out area he was able to git to that positioned him safely OUT of "harm's way" - My Lumina now, *that's* anuther story -- I LIT her up w my lite bar, arrow bar, and rear strobes and went to helpin him w my wheeled service jack -- he had a small "bottle" jack --

GOT him squared away and left, w his promise to "pass it on" :)
