I have an old hobart black box welder. The wire feed isn't working. I have the electric motor off and I'm looking for a replacement. I've never had troubles before but it looks like it's been changed before. Does anyone have any suggestions about parts or problems?

  3. I am not familiar with the black box?..Hobart
I have three Hobarts myself and repair them usually too.
Are you sure its the drive motor?
Reas I said tht is with all the use mine get I have not had that fail.
Usually the culprit is the CONTACTOR.

If Im not mistaken..MILLEr own Hobart if you have no luck...You Might try a Miller dealer.Just a Thought.:D

  6. Pull the side cover off on the back side from your wire drive.....it will be the rectangular black bakelite component withseveral wires hooked to each end....if it sparks when you pull the trigger -most likely it has burnt contact ponts.
This device is what SIMULTANEOUSLY contacts the wire drive motor -the gas solenoid- and the welders coils at the same instant.......
a new one from Hobart cost me 83 dollars........ a generic[better quality-FURNAS] replacement cost me 32 dollars at an electric supply house near here.....If you need tha number just ask.....

  7. Miller is NOW in production of only the 110 volt hobarts.....the larger Hobarts are still a HOBART!;)
