Ok, I want to put a small diesel in my 40 ford coe,. Im not a diesel guy so I need some help. 1st off is there a small physical sized diesel that will still have enough power to pull a fifth wheel trailer with a rod on it, while still fitting between the seats? Has any one had any experience with this? or like project?

  3. Well....it can be done...but why wouldya want to?
I know a guy up in Canada(and some of you cabover guys that have been around will know who I'm talkin about;)) that built a hauler with a small turbodiesel/stick. It would haul his coupe, and was rigged to haul his camper---I don't know if he ever did both--can't remember....don't think he will now either, as he had a bad bike wreck a couple of years ago--hurt him bad and killed his wife :(:(. Last time I talked to him, he was selling the COE :(
But I digress......I had a Grumman bodied van years ago with a little ***mins 4/stick...and it was a DOG. Sure, you can load em to hell, but I like going faster than 50 mph.

My #1(of 4) COE project is a 40 Ford cab on a 94 E350 van ch***is. Yeah, it's a Powerstroke/auto. I bought the van for $500  It had dead batteries, and the company that owned it wanted it gone. 200k mi, cold air, new tires---I can drive it anywhere.
There's got to be some comparable donors out there.

Probably the only way I'd build a small diesel truck is if I had a donor sitting there that I couldn't sell!

Now ya got my two cents-prolly more......so keep the change;)

Good info. thats why I asked... I was thinking something like a ***mings or possibly a Isuzu... something with some torque, and yes a donor purchase is the way Id want to go. Thanks for the reply.;)

I am building the 42 COE PU and the 46 COE car hauler both with 5.2 efi and 518 OD transmissions that came out of 1993 dakota PU's and the 42 is on the complete dakota ch***is.
but when I get to the clubcab COE it will be on a ***mins turbo diesel ch***is. my son has a 03 4 dr ***mins turbo diesel with a bullydog kit on it and that truck flys(14.40 in the 1/4) and it tows fantastic :cool:
