The familiar Offenhauser breather is such a familiar piece that we take it for granted. How long has it been around? Who drew it- the hot rod people or the Indy motor builders? Dale Drake? Leo Goosen? Does it come from back in the Miller days? One of you experts must know the history of this nice little part.
Here's a Leo Goossen drawing done in 1950. You can see two of them on this 255 Offy. It's been around at least that long. My guess would be that Harry Miller used that design long before that.
The 183 Miller 8 from 1920 had them. I really enjoy this site, every era of cars that I like is covered.
How about and early Moon? Anybody know what year it might be? [/ QUOTE ] I dunno, but that's old. what a beauty! that should be in a gl*** showcase.
tommy, I'd guess the Moon breather is from around 1960, looks like the size used on valve covers. Bob
I've been told this is pre-war with the name stamped into the body so you can see the resemblance. I know Moon got started casting fuel blocks (not like this one) I wondered if someone was casting generic parts that the vendors stamped his logo into.

[/ QUOTE ] You may be right, I know that T speed equipment made in the 1920's along with the catalog photos were all shared by different manufacturers.
