I bought a car online from another state. Paid for car and guy said he was really busy for the next two weeks. Gave him two weeks before he would send me the ***le (owns a car shop, so I figured he was on the up and up). Six weeks later and still no ***le. Had the car shipped to me but still no ***le. Called and emailed over and over, said he would send it but still a no show. Sent me an email saying he would send me the ***le and even sent a picture of the ***le, so I could see the ***le and even read the vin number. Yes it dawned on me the guys a tool but I still don't have the ***le. What can I do?

Contact the DMV in that state. Here in NC you would talk to a License and Theft inspector and I am sure that would get the wheels moving. But then you have law enforcement involved and I have seen people lose their purchase.

LAWYER UP! Or at least talk to your local police. He might be trying to pull a fast one, and claim to his local LEO's that the car is stolen. With the ***le in his hand, and the "stolen" car in yours, you're the one on the hook looking pretty bad.
If the gendarmes have info and photocompies of your do***ents and email BEFORE he can file his claim, you're a leg up on covering your backside.

Roger.....with maybe a little too much conspiracy theorist running around upstairs.

I don't know how long you have been dealing with cars, but owning a shop is no guarantee the guy is on the up and up. Most shop owners are, but there is that 10 - 15% who are out and out crooks. Your guy may be on the level, just a little flakey. I'd either call him or text him every day or take a trip to his shop. If he has the ***le he should be able to give it to you if you are face to face. At any rate, do not cut him any slack.

I had the same thing happen to me from a car lot in Florida, call the Attorney General in the state your dealing with. The guy won't like what happens next.

Use the member search here, type in the city/ state, see if there are any members there that are active on the forum. Send them a message to see if they no this cat and will possibly go collect your ***le and send it. Hell the guy could've died, stranger things have happened.

Sorry but if a guy is too busy ( lazy ? ) to put a ***le in an envelope and mail it, that would be a major red flag to me to begin with.

  10. Always interesting how folks mention
    “ Lawyers and Police “.

Unless you have a lawyer on retainer
it will cost you more money than the
value of the car to hire one.

The police do not get involved in civil matters.

You pay for an education, one way or another.

If you are buying a vehicle - if it is supposed
to have a ***le - it is your responsibility
to make sure it has one before you pay
    for the vehicle.

Save those emails that he sent you. They may be the proof you might ultimately need.

Was this online a HAMB deal ?

    Or some other website ?

You stated he sent you a picture of the ***le.
By chance did you send a check or Cashiers check to the name on the ***le or another name ?

Did he ask you to wire the money to a verified bank account ?

Is the ***le in that guys name or did he jump ***le from who he got it from ?

Have you Googled the guys name and address ?

Did he require you to send a Western Union payment or Money Graham payment.

Just going down the check list of possible scams.

Another suggestion is you stated that you had it shipped. I would contact the shipping company and get the location of where they picked it up from address.

The OP should be rather experienced in selling cars, as that’s what all his posts on the HAMB are for. But we can still help the guy out in his time of trouble.

  15. You need to get the ball rolling to protect yourself now, this thread (Projects - 34 Ford coupe nicknamed "Blown Income" | The H.A.M.B. (jalopyjournal.com)) was posted by a guy that built a beautiful hemi powered coupe. Low and behold the old owner had the ***le, claimed the car was stolen and the OP had to fight a long battle which ended with him essentially buying the car back from the seller a second time even after all of the do***entation of the build was presented with receipts for all of the parts bought. You are in a bad position right now from where I'm sitting.

Maybe if he starts enough threads about this, the problem will magically go away. If it were me and you already have his business address, a round trip air fare from OH to TX is $300-400, throw in an overnight stay at a motel, a rental car and for around $750 you have the solution to your problem. Man to man, in person ***le exchange. It may not be the cheapest way to go but the most direct and sure way to solve your problem. Posting a new thread on here every couple hours isn't the way to go.

The main HAMB board section is the only section this is in.

I sent a private message to the OP that all of the other posts in various sections were deleted.

Somethig doesn't make sence. He sent you the car and a picture of the ***le.
Does the vin match the one on the car?
Sending a car takes alot more effort than mailing a ***le unless there's a problem with the ***le.
There could be a lien holder or it's in some one else's name.
Aske for a bill of sale along with the ***le and keep all records you have such as ad where you found car.

Ok, I'll say it again, Call some churches or the Sheriffs dept and locate a preacher or Father or whoever you want since you are a Christian, Ask if they would get in contact with the guy and help you out. Put the fear of God in him.:)

  24. I’d start another thread.

It's been my understanding that any issues with ***les are violations of interstate commerce law... so, you CAN get the cops involved

    And there's your answer. ^^^

  27. The OP has physical possession of the vehicle.
The OP doesn’t have the ***le.
The issue of the ***le is a civil matter.
The OP buys and sells vehicles.
The OP should have resolved the issue
with the ***le BEFORE he paid for
the vehicle and had it shipped out
    of state to himself.

This thread has run its course.

No citizen can compel law enforcement to do anything. All they can do is ask.

My prediction is that, when approached, the OP will be told that this is a civil matter, and to hire a lawyer.

Well I’m not advocating violence, etc. for civil matters here in Ca., ie say I wanted to retrieve my property from someone and wanted to be safe, etc, I’d contact the Sheriffs office in that county and request an ******.
I’ve done it before and years back I think it was a 21 or so charge for them to standby and watch as I knocked on the door.
