I am starting to gather pieces to put a 2 bbl on my slant six and need to start looking for a carb. I was thinking about the 500cfm Holley, are they as easily tuned as their 4 bbl counter parts? Are they the same as a 4150 4 bbl but just the primary side, do the parts interchange to, and do they run good? Any info/experiances would be great. -Jesse
Yes, they can be tuned just as easily as their four barrel cousins! As you guessed, you are really working on half of a four barrel carb! I've used them on a few Fords with excellent results. Jets, power valves, accelerator pump cams, bowls, etc all interchange...making the task of tuning these carbs a breeze!
That carb came out on the 57 Ford. It was used on later Ford tripowers as well as Mopar 6 Packs; tons were on SBF's into the smog era.
i think i have one hanging around here needing a rebuild jesse. let me know if you want it, cheap! jerry
Really! How cheap is cheap, and is it a 350 or a 500? I'll be at 35th friday so I can talk to ya there to. -Jesse
I have a love/hate relationship with mine. For "just a 2-Barrel", it has a LOT of punch, when tuned just right. Mine's a 500 CFM, with the 50cc accelerator pump. Driving with air cleaner off (or with one of those triangular Pro Flo filters like on mine), you can still the hiss of gas jetting in. But it can be tempermental, when off-tune. They're worth it, though, for a 2 Barrel. Even after I convert my 390 to 4-Barrel, I'll keep the 2 Barrel around for a future ride. Oh- adding a spacer really does a good difference, too.
