So this is what I have. A 66 Chevy C10 with a 283 .030 over, Edelbrock performer intake and 204/214 cam, 416 305 heads, powerglide and 3.73 rear end. My problem is pretty simple. I just can't get a decent idle. Nothing under 1000 rpm and it is darn near impossible to take off without killing it. This is a fresh engine and I haven't tried anything else on it. I don't seem to have a vacuum leak. I used a squirt bottle of water and sprayed around all carb and intake edges that I could reach and couldn't find anything. I've played with the secondary screw, made sure I had the "square" on the primary transition slots and I'm just stumped. Nothing seems to make it better. It is an electric choke and I think that may be causing me some trouble but I have no way of knowing for sure. All adjustments so far have been made with a vacuum gauge and as far as I can tell the timing is right or at least close enough not to matter. I'm about ready to try an Edelbrock 500 or stick that little 2G back on o_O Any ideas?

If the electric choke is not 100% open that affects the fast idle adjustment. This may help:

Is it an early Edelbrock intake? With the spreadbore pattern in the secondaries? Then you likely have a vacuum leak, edelbrock sells a flat plate to seal the spreadbore GM to squarebore holley. The leak is up under the sides of carb and hard to spray into.
