i decide a few days ago to put a holley 4160 600 cfm carb i had laying around on my olds 324. i rebuilt it , got it on the motor and running. i went to drive it and when i give it alot of gas it revs way up like the trans (hydramatic) is in neutral and when i let off it gets back in gear. the trans shifted fine with the rochester on it. i dont have the kickdown hooked up. any help is greatly appreciated.

does that hydro have a throttle pressure rod ? going from the throttle linkage to the trans ?
my 55 pontiac hydro did the same exact thing...and the throttle pressure rod was out of adjustment. since you put this new carb on, and ***uming that it does have the throttle pressure rod...maybe it's out of adjustment do to the fact that you probably had to re-adjust the throttle linkage going to the carb .
    just a thought.
but...definitly hook the kick down back up...that alone may be the problem.
hydros need the kick down and the throttle pressure rod...to tell it when to shift.
