I've got a 2 barrel 94 off of a 35 ford phaeton. The instructions from the carb kit say; Float level adjustment; Hold the top plate upside down, measure from the air horn to the bottom of the float 1- 11/32". I set it to that. It has almost no travel. Float drop adjustment; Hold the top plate right side up measure 1-7/16" from the air horn to the bottom of the float. With this adjustment it looks like the travel would be more like i expected. Here's the problem, It says to use the same adjusting tab to make both adjustments. There is no way that both measurements will stay in spec using the same tab. What am i missing here?
There are two tabs on the float, one for level and the other for drop. If there aren't two tabs, you need a new float
There are two, one holding the needle valve up, and the other is hitting yhe back of the needle vale housing.
Adjust tab to needle with carb upside down for gauging, make a simple gauge for the drop dimension an adjust by bending the other tab. Ford did not publish a real drop spec...just said "be sure...stop on float...will allow it to drop to bottom! Holley 1938 or 9 manual same...also suggested measuring FUEL level. I think the tighter drop spec is useful, not really for running but for when carb is dry entirely; when float is all the way down on its little support, the needle pushing tab is getting pretty far from a good pushing position on needle. Too much side thrust, not enoughup...
this is the best documented info I've seen http://c777913.r13.cf2.rackcdn.com/holley_94_aa-1_rebuild_instructions.pdf
Thank you 50mercfan for asking this question, and thank you Bruce Lancaster for delivering me from ignorance.
