I am changing my Rochester out, I have a Motorcraft rebuilt h/w for an ****** ($10), but the linkage doesn't want to work with the stovebolt a-dapt-r kit. Should I use a pinto, vega, k-car model? I hpefully can "trade" it in at the part store.

btw it on a 235 stock intake

    Thanks,
    D

Is the pinto/vega model the one with the goofy diamond shaped air horn? If so, that's one more adapter you'll need to make/buy, or a junkyard search in the dead of winter.

Sorry that doesn't answer your question directly. Just one more thing to keep in mind.

I think the air cleaners are all similar, there are enough k-cars around I can use one of them, if they have the right linkage.

Those ******s were built for 20+ years and probably have carb variations. I think Tom was selling the 5200 series Holley/Weber 2bbls and maybe his linkage is for that model.

I know the carb should be installed with the float bowl(s) toward the front of the engine to work with his system. Clifford Performance used to sell an extension for use with the later style carb linkage using a one piece arm.

I wonder if you can just can the linkage and use a cable setup? Heres the 5200 Holley. It uses water heated choke.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

As I remember, the Vega and Pinto carbs were mirror images of each other.

Probably easier to find an ****** of K-car piece, and go from there.

The Holley 5200 was a licensed copy of the Weber 32/36 DGV 2 bbl carb and made by Motorcraft. They were on Pintos, Capris, Mustangs and Courier trucks with 4 cyl or V6 motors. The V6 had bigger jets and venturis. The parts are interchangable with the Weber 32/36 DVG carb. Venturi sizes are on the side of the carb with 26/27 standard. Manual trans car needs a manual carb. The later carbs were crammed with smog fittings. Those early carbs are as easy to work on but came with some engineering bugs that made for hard starts, hesitation, and flat spots.

This link shows the years for the 5200. I think Langdon still sells them rebuilt, and could jet it(them) for your motor size. He's the one to ask about linkage problems.

I've got a 5200 from Langdon's on a small six in an early Comet. The linkage worked out fine for Ford cable accelerator. I also have one from E-Bay with differnt linkage. I believe the 5200 series ( used on the Chevy's) is a mirror image with the linkage on the bowl side.

I used a Ford 250 air cleaner "formed" with a BFH and some MIG stick.

As mentioned it is recommended to stay away from the "feedback" models with wires and a solenoid sticking out of the top (not the wire for electric choke ***isted water choke).

had time yesterday to put the carb on. Its an 85 ****** model, took all the electric **** off. runs pretty good, starts great even with out the choke hooked up. Had to play with the linkage, its still not quite right, but it runs better, doesn't surge like the rochester.
